Conrad Murray found guilty of involuntary manslaughter

Posted: 04:18 PM ET

A jury says Dr. Conrad Murray is guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson's death.

Jurors deliberated for over ten hours to reach the unanimous decision.

The jury was made up of seven men and five women. Two of the men identified themselves as fans of Jackson in their jury questionnaires.

California law says jurors can only reach a guilty verdict if they all agree that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Their guilty verdict means they all believe the doctor committed a crime that posed a high risk of death or great bodily injury, and that the crime caused Michael Jackson's death.

The maximum sentence for involuntary manslaughter is four years in prison. However, because of prison overcrowding and budgetary concerns a new California law allows for a possibility that Dr. Murray could serve his sentence on house arrest.

Dr. Murray's legal troubles are far from over. Jackson's father Joe Jackson is pursuing a wrongful death suit against Dr. Murray. Dr. Murray will also have to fight to keep his medical licenses in California, Nevada and Texas.

Finally, a jury intelligent to see through and past the Defense smoke and mirrors to come to a just verdict!!!

JS   November 7th, 2011 4:23 pm ET

Sad – holding others responsible for a stupid, sick man's problems.

Mr. Murray fell victim to the court of public opinion this afternoon, that is all.

James   November 7th, 2011 4:23 pm ET

the judge would not stop talking to the jury. i know he is guilty, but can he just get him moved along. sad for him.

Carol   November 7th, 2011 4:24 pm ET

Good, now this so called doctor should never be allowed to touch another patient again.

Patricia   November 7th, 2011 4:25 pm ET

Guilty – unanimous verdict – Judge permits Jurors to talk about case, deliberations and verdict, advises them to advise the court if ANYone in the media prints inaccurate reports.

marge   November 7th, 2011 4:29 pm ET

yes, they did it! I hope he gets the max...even though it won't be enough.

info   November 7th, 2011 4:29 pm ET

House arrest??? Yeah, that's California. Say "hi" to Lindsay as they book you in the revolving door.

masar   November 7th, 2011 4:29 pm ET

finally he got what he desirves even though 4 years is not enough for what he did

A.C.Guard   November 7th, 2011 4:30 pm ET

Well of course Joe Jackson is seeking a civil suite. Just another way for the family to make money off of Michael. They used him and bled him his entire life, why not do it after he's dead.

Jimmy   November 7th, 2011 4:30 pm ET

Wherever Murray does his prison time, he can help out in the infirmary. He'll also be able to perform any lethal injections that come up. Lots of medical talent in the man.

Bill   November 7th, 2011 4:31 pm ET

another guilty black man. bet the libs are partying hard today.

Chuan Reyes   November 7th, 2011 4:34 pm ET

He should get 20 years instead of 4 years!!!

WasteOfTime   November 7th, 2011 4:35 pm ET

So glad to know that California prosecutors are out wisely spending taxpayer money to protect the public from the severe and pervasive threat of doctors giving too many drugs to celebrity clients. You are all so much safer now that another one is off the streets.

Scott leeds   November 7th, 2011 4:38 pm ET

Dr. Murray should have used better judgment when administering drugs to anyone with oblivious drug dependency issues. Greed won, and Dr. Murray loss.

Paulette from Long Island   November 7th, 2011 4:42 pm ET

Best Picture ever of CONRAD MURRAY getting handcuffed by Correction Officer's and there were 4 of them.... That should be on the front page of every newspaper across the world!!! Now maybe the Jackson Family can move on!

bjean   November 7th, 2011 4:42 pm ET

I'm sorry, but the public had to have a scapegoat, and they got one today! There were more than one person surrounding Michael Jackson who were negligent in the case of his death. Michael Jackson for one!

Tom Bender   November 7th, 2011 4:42 pm ET

I have a better way for Murray to repay Humanity for his crime.
Rather than live in the comfort of House Arrest in the States, Murray be required to serve his time out in Africa or the Middle East where Doctors are badly needed.
This could be done through the Peace Corps or the United Nations.
All Doctors that are convicted of Crimes should serve out their sentence giving back to Humanity for what they have taken from Humanity !

Sylvia Robles   November 7th, 2011 4:43 pm ET

Well finally a jury that took there job serious. I feel for everyone involved. It was a tough job and decision. But justice was served.

Windy   November 7th, 2011 4:43 pm ET

Yes there is still hope in the judicial system!!!

Deedy   November 7th, 2011 4:45 pm ET

I don't think it is far that Murray may get to live comfortable at his home while MJ is living in a cold grave. If this happens MJ did not get his justice

Windy   November 7th, 2011 4:48 pm ET

Hope Conrad won't EVER be able to write a book or make $$$, in any shape or form from this.

kay   November 7th, 2011 4:49 pm ET

Michael received justice today. Murray's days of freedom and excess are over. Finally!

Janice MIller   November 7th, 2011 4:49 pm ET

I really don't understand that he was found guilty of murder of Michael Jackson. I thought it was manslaughter. I believe he is not the only one that needs to be held accountable. If he was an addict where was his family to do an intervention. If it wasn't this doctor don't you think he would just get another doctor to give him what he wanted because of who he was? Who started him on these drugs. Should we be going after all those other doctors? I believe he was partially responsible but there are so many other factors that probably was not brought up and think of those children of his that need closure but I think that this just opens more questions then closure. We will all miss the legend of Michael Jackson and as a fan of his I will always remember his remarkable career instead of his death. We will always listen to his music throughout the years and I want to remember him postitively.

Wallene Wimberly   November 7th, 2011 4:50 pm ET

Happy that Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty. He needs to lose his medical license in all three states. With all his gross negligence, I often wonder if he is an "impersonator." He gave propofol to a person at home and left him unattended for over 30 minutes, not 2 minutes. Murray lied so many times. Murray knew that Michael Jackson was dead before he telephoned Michael Amir Williams, and called for Little Prince. I watched 95% of the trial. My prayers go out to Michael Jackson's family, especially Prince, Paris, and Blanket.

Earl L Laughlin   November 7th, 2011 4:52 pm ET

Dr Conrad Murray Is nothing more than a scapegoat,, Michael Jackson nothing more than a Rich Drug Addict

Wallene Wimberly   November 7th, 2011 4:59 pm ET

Lastly, Michael Jackson's past doctors should be thoroughly investigated for enabling him through narcotics. I do not trust Dr. Klein. Any doctor who gave propofol to Michael outside of a hospital to help Michael sleep should lose their medical license as well. I do not care if it was 15 years ago. Michael Jackson probably had an addiction, and needed doctors to help him, not hurt him. One doctor eventually killed him. They only could see $$$$s. Anyone with an addiction or have a medical problem (rich, middle class, or poor) deserve to be treated with “excellent” standard of care. I believe what happened to Michael Jackson will help other patients.

I remember where I was and what I was doing when I found out that Michael Jackson had died. Now we can say when he was murdered. I have been a Jackson Five fan since 1969 when I was ten years old.

G. Y. Fortune   November 7th, 2011 5:22 pm ET

I would like to learn who first gave Michael Jackson propofol... He could not have known of the anesthesia without a doctor using it, first, in a hospital, and continually, probably for his many plastic surgeries. It is not a normal medication, and not a recreational drug. Jackson asked for "milk." Looking at result without seeking initial causation is negligence by law enforcement and the medicalprofesion. Somebody out there is scot-free.

Dr. Murray was the last of several who aided an addiction. MJ was en-route to death long before Murray, who is culpable for greed and negligence, but he is not alone.

ShakingMyHead   November 7th, 2011 5:39 pm ET

It is what it is no two ways about it now! I am glad that Judge Pastor took the time to explain the pros and cons regarding if Murray stays out of prison compared to being in jail until sentence is impose. The sheer humiliation of those cuffs going on him while he looked indignant, while his huge ego deflated on impact, spoke loud and clear. MURDERER. He murdered Michael Jackson and the Judge was not afraid to speak the truth out of his own mouth.

It is a sad day, but it is also a glorious day for the correct judgement call. Two years was too long to wait, but Justice rang clear and honest.

G U I L T Y.

pam   November 7th, 2011 5:45 pm ET

I hope the Jackson family realizes that finding Murray guilty wont really realive their consciousness they too are still guilty of not helping a family member their brother and son who desperately needed it. Good luck living with yourselves your phonies and you know it.

Cindy Richard   November 7th, 2011 5:46 pm ET

(There's plenty of room in the Texas Prison for Conrad Murray, sent his butt on the first thing smoking!

Cindy Richard   November 7th, 2011 5:50 pm ET

House arrest is saying he's free, look at Lindsay Lohan, the California court is a joke. And this is why these celebrities get away with murder!

jeff t   November 7th, 2011 6:01 pm ET

sorry to see MJs Family did not support him till after his death$$$$$$$$

jeff t   November 7th, 2011 6:10 pm ET

Did Mjs mother not know he was an addict? Did she ask who was Conrad? Did she care who was caring for her child and grandchildren? ???? Or was it time to get a oil change for the Maybach?

Johnny   November 7th, 2011 6:18 pm ET

Poor Conrad Murray !! The look on his face when they went to cuff him..priceless !!
Who was that dip wad outside the court house with the head phones acting a fool wearing a Conrad t-shirt ..he had a bottle of propafol pretending to drink it !!
What a fool..I think he does a part on one of the late night shows ..it was pretty stupid and the cameras kept on catching him but nobody said a thing..what's up with that ..check it ..someone should rectally administer 50 cc's of prop if he wants it so bad !! LOL..

Maria   November 7th, 2011 6:22 pm ET

House arrest due to over crowded jail cells. Well let's just all go out and be lawless since my only punishment could be a ankle devise.
RIP Michael and may the family get real justice at sentencing!

Cindy Richard   November 7th, 2011 6:25 pm ET

This is funny, the jails were crowded when OJ was accused of killing Nicole (white woman) but found space until his trial. Well it doesn't matter that Michael Jackson was The King of Pop, he was yet a (black man).

albertina gonzalez   November 7th, 2011 6:31 pm ET

i thought that he would lose his license if found guilty, hallelujah day we all can exhale , now love u mj, your family, n fans, we all love u, your friends unfortuntley u had no real friends, but everyone else thank u for your prayers n love, n doing the right thing

Windy   November 7th, 2011 6:42 pm ET

I can't believe how many people are blaming Michael, and acting like Conrad had nothing to do with this.

Conrad did exactly what a person with consciousness of guilt would do;

-never called 911
- disposed of evidence
- never told paramedics, or emergency room doctors he gave propofol,
-lied when he said he was the one who told Mrs. Jackson of her sons death. A ER doctor was the one who told her
-try to take the attention off of himself and put it on someone else
(saying Michael was an addict)

Mjohn18156   November 7th, 2011 6:46 pm ET

I am so grateful for the guilty verdict. Dr. Murray deserved the book thrown at him.

Judge M. Pastor did an awesome job. He recognized the danger to allow this murderer to walk free.
Excellent job, judge and jury.

gigee   November 7th, 2011 6:51 pm ET

How was it that everyone knew M J was a drugie except Conrad Murray????? That guy was only interested in $$$$$$$$. Cuff him Danno.....

buck wilson   November 7th, 2011 8:29 pm ET

hello, i knew conrad would go to prison hes a man,not a woman like casey.

Renee   November 7th, 2011 8:38 pm ET

I wouldn’t put that much substance into what Klein says. I have listened to other interviews he has done since MJ died and he would throw MJ under a bus to save his own butt. He always tries to make himself sound like a hero and he always did the right thing. When someone is always patting himself on the back and look too good, they usually are not all that great. It upsets me that so many people believe what he is says without questioning his motives. As LaToya said read between the lines. He is lying. Of course he is going to say MJ was addicted to propofol it takes the heat off him.

Teresa smith   November 7th, 2011 8:38 pm ET

I am hopeful torment sentencing phase. I so wanted the Judge to remand Murray and cuff that man and send him to JAIL. The fact that he DID and frankly repeated that he did so for the safety of the public, and repeat that this was a "HOMICIDE" it helps me believe that the good Judge will say that Homicide IS a "Violent" crime and thus does not qualify for the new law that would keep him out of prison. It seemed that he was eating the stage for a harsh sentence... At least I hope so, and while I feel for his children they will have the chance to visit him, and get him back in 4 years.. The Jackson children and family won't have that privilege.. Frankly I wish it had been murder II because I believe his actions were so awful and reckless that it is deserving, he was not only criminally negligent.. He LIED !!!!!! And I still believe that there is more to this story..
I love you Michael I hope that total justice and vindication is yours one
day.

Trina   November 7th, 2011 8:40 pm ET

Michael touchedmany lives-I feel that the trial was a tragedy for all-it made us see MJ in a pitiful state-it also show how unhappy and sad his life was-he died before June 25th. I feel that Dr. Conrad Murray was trying to help Michael -as desperate as MJ was for drugs/sleep he was an addict-he would have taken his own life eventually-It just sad that Dr Murray has to be the fall guy.

bethie   November 7th, 2011 9:27 pm ET

To me the Dr. was left holding the bag so to speak-I knew they would find him guilty but it was alot of things rolled altogether. Hopefully he won't get any real jail time. Glad the case is solved-its not this was the tip of the iceburg.

Deb   November 7th, 2011 10:46 pm ET

I think this was the correct verdict, however it is a shame that others are not sharing in this. Conrad Murray did not get Michael Jackson to this place. There were many who had gone before him who did the same thing. There was a report that there was an IV pole and equipment and an anesthesiologist who traveled with him on the Oxygen Tour. This was many years in the making and many people had a hand in this, not just Conrad Murray.

Barry   November 7th, 2011 11:06 pm ET

I hope this sends a message to the medical community that the judicial system is not going to tolerate this crap anymore! There are too many doctors in 'Tinsel town' who pander to the needs of ' well heeled' patients! I'm not sure of the amount, but Murray was reportedly paid $150 g's/week! Regardless of weather he wins/loses an appeal, his reputation is destroyed! I'm sure other 'like minded' doctors are going to sit back and say 'what if this happines to me'? The issue of Murray testifying was brought up! Could you immagine the damage to Murray once Walgren got through with him? The once proud 'father of propofol', who testified for the defence, was destroyed by Walgren, Murray would have been cricified by Walgren! On the bright side!, Myrray could apply to have his medical license re-instated in Texas! They are always running short of qualified 'lethal injection' personnel!!!!

Sara   November 7th, 2011 11:26 pm ET

Now that Klein has come forth (what is HE on ?)- it would be fascinating to hear from Murray himself, Flanagan, White and the jurors.

I do not think the verdict is about addiction– it is about professional standards of conduct & the responsibility to which a person with sacred privileges must be held.

The same sloppy sense of honor corrupts airline pilots, bus drivers, housing inspectors, nurses, teachers, public health workers, CEOs, finacial advisors...et al. There are many ways to do harm where folks place their lives with total trust in someone claiming professional status.

terri   November 7th, 2011 11:38 pm ET

Guilty of involuntary manslaughter and negligence is one thing, (personal relatiohips, etc., are, of course not to be judged) but to cuff and jail Conrad Murray immediately, no prior convictions, has never missed a hearing, court date, etc., is not the example of justice . This is an individual that has contributing factors to the human race, unlike so many career criminals that still walk free everyday. The verdict is, and was, the decision of the jury – guilty or innocent. What a complete waste of two individuals with so much to offer to even those that deserve to rot in jail, but still walk free. Brings a new meaning to the word "justice".

Donna   November 7th, 2011 11:38 pm ET

Dr. Murray thought he was going to have a Life of Luxury. Now he is in the Slammer. He risked it all. I feel absolutely NO pity for him. It was his choice when he said yes to Michael. As a physician Im sure he knew the risk, but got too caught up with all his young women. He will be in jail celebrating Thanksgiving, while they will be out looking for another Mr. Goodbar.

Ron   November 8th, 2011 7:29 am ET

Anyone who has his face changed from what God has given him is insecure. His father is the one who should of been on trail because the way he raised his children. Again people are blind from the truth and Doctor Murray is the victim. Come on, we all knew Michael had problems and serious ones too, even before this happened. You could see the writing on the wall and you knew by the way he lived that something terrible was going to happen. Lets blame the real problem, his dad.

Gilleman   November 8th, 2011 7:44 am ET

J was a rich and demanding addict, were does that leaves everything.

Justice is not served with this jury verdict Dr.Conrad should appeal this.

Matt Kaelin   November 8th, 2011 9:18 am ET

Re.: Dr. Conrad Murray's guilty verdict.

Hi Christi,

Has any reason been given on why lead attorney Ed Chernoff failed to ask for a "motion to set aside the jury's verdict?" Will this complicate their appeal process?

Thanks,

Matt Kaelin,
Palmyra, NJ

Kerri   November 8th, 2011 9:56 am ET

I do believe the doctor is guilty, but I aso think something needs to be done about the way ALL prescription drugs are registered, more people are going to lose their lives if this does not happen, any person can go to several different doctors and get several different meds, if a data base is made to show what an individual is legally taking the doctor has no reason whatsoever to over prescribe. A simple blood test would show what the person is taking was or was not prescribed therefore clearing th doctor!

tgrb   November 8th, 2011 9:59 am ET

Someone needs to expain to me why manslaughter is a much less offense than murder. You mean if you shoot someone through the head, (Murder), it's a much more of a crime than if you slaughter them?

Mary Anne Wirth   November 8th, 2011 10:10 am ET

Regardless of Michael Jackson's wealth or demands, Dr Murray needed to have the courage to do no harm. At minimum.....If Michael wanted such treatment, an anesthesiologist should have been hired to monitor and administer such a dangerous drug. Dr. Murray needs to pay the price for his poor judgement.

diane tx   November 8th, 2011 10:11 am ET

I believe dr.murry made mistakes but michael made mistakes by asking for drugs.as for joe jackson all he wantss is money for his self and he was an awful father to the jackson kids.he just wanted there money.where was this family when michael needed them.no where to be found unless he could do something for them.I don't think michael would have wanted thiss for dr.murrary.hiss family knew he needed help for addiction and no one was there for him.

VPC   November 8th, 2011 10:21 am ET

My reaction to the verdict was "Ho Hum". The world will always be full of wealthy, hopeless drug addicts and greedy, immoral health professionals to supply the drugs. They both deserve what they got.

griffin   November 8th, 2011 10:35 am ET

lets be clear conrad murray lied to everyone police the defense THEY had no idea he was guilty they went off what conrad murry said so they were just as blind to the fact SO they did a great job on WHAT THEY WERE GIVEN AND THAT WAS A BUNCH OF LIES Tto tell the truth this was a DRUG DEAL GONE BAD

mf   November 8th, 2011 10:44 am ET

When are the Defense lawyers going to understand that their DOCTOR was a supplier of drugs and didn't CARE or ACT like a doctor which ended Micheal Jackson's LIFE,! He was ok in getting the money but not assume any responsibility......These doctors including Dr. Kline need to be doctors first, instead of filing their pockets with MILLIONS on people"s poor addictive mental behavior! Remember Elvis Presley and many ,many others....Make these so called PROFESSIONAL"S be liable for the actions they take on Human Life!

mf   November 8th, 2011 10:50 am ET

If there is an APPEAL it should only be- 1) A room to fit BOTH Murrey and Kline .2) Have their Doctor's License taken from them. 3) Confirmation of a Doctor's responsibility in our COUNTRY!

T.T.   November 8th, 2011 11:09 am ET

Make no mistake people, Conrad Murray was very stupid for getting mixed up in Michael Jackson's bull. But people can say what they want but they truely don't know who Michael really was behind closed doors. Like they say, the true test of character is what you do when no one is looking. Well I'd say he was the greatest dancer that ever lived and one of the greatest singers, from what i've seen, but it also seems like he did what ever it took to get what he wanted, regardless of who it effected.

Donna   November 8th, 2011 11:33 am ET

Sad day to see again someone being held responsible for another's action. I bet you if it wasn't Michael Jackson this wouldn't have even made it to trial. His family should be ashamed of themselves for not helping him out. They are far more responsible than this man. I agree he should lose his license and be prosecuted for the abuse of prescriptions, but manslauter, no way.

B. Brown   November 8th, 2011 11:39 am ET

Flanagan an the rest of murray crew need to be ashamed of there self's. BLAMING THE KING OF POP for his own death. MJ had alot to live for murray an only murray is responsible for MJ'S death. murray is a DRUG DEALER and a full time TRICK if mj used a needle ? never found. why keep on bringing up child Molestation charge's oj casey anthony has Nothing to do with murray. just stop please it's sickings me to blame MJ for his own death. i believe murray was paid to kill THE KING OF POP. MJ is dead and the Media still tarnish MJ his family , childern murray was MJ doctor stop sayin he is

shorty   November 8th, 2011 11:50 am ET

I agree with the verdict. I do not believe he intentionaly did it. He was out of his area of his medical expertiece. He knows, as a professional, that he should have gotten all of Michael's medical records and history before he took on this job. As a doctor, he is held to a high standard. His character wittnesses were correct in speaking on how he took care of them and cared about their health, but he was a cardiologist that knew what to do and the equipment needed in case of an emergency.

Randi   November 8th, 2011 12:00 pm ET

I think this is wrong the Doctor not guilty of anything Micheal has been killing himself for along time if anyone the blame put it on his father he killed Micheal when he was young. The doctor was just doing what he was told by the king of rock Micheal was taking all kinds of drugs and not just by Dr Murray other doctors to. It get me that Micheal had to have this every night just to sleep and I think there is more people involved in this and they had to blame someone at it came down on the Doctor its ashame. The Doctor was there for Micheal when he was down where was the family when he needed him now that he is gone their coming out of the wood work they were not there they don't what was going on in Micheal private life they need to let Micheal rest in peace an quit blaming everyone else blame his father. Im listening to people talk and down gradeing the doctor noone was there so they done know what went on in there with the doctor and Micheal behind close doors if this was an unknown person would this have happened I don't think so. I grew up with Micheal Jackson music same age I loved him but I really think there is more to this then what was told

giggi   November 8th, 2011 12:05 pm ET

I listened to the prosecutor go on and on about how Dr. Murray had deprived Michael's children of a father. I could not help but think of the May 9th recording of Michael Jackson and the medical records from Dr Arnold Kline showing all the demerol injections he received for his botox treatment. I would argue demerol and all the other drugs had taken the children's father long before Dr. Murray appeared on the scene. I know Dr. Murray did wrong in agreeing to adminster propofol but it was just a matter of time before Michael met his maker. Dr. Murray happened to be the one caught holding the bag. Another thing is all the hoopla made over Michael being an icon and what a loss this is to the world. Yes, he was talented but, a life is a life. I don't see how his was more valuable than another's. It's like the media is afraid to say anthing negative for fear of infuriating the Jackson family (including the judge).

Gary   November 8th, 2011 12:10 pm ET

MJ will always be a pop icon his music remembered with the other icons of entertainment.

As for his constitution and mannerisms, MJ has always had a problem, didn't like the way he looked, didn't want to be a part of the family, this I blame on the Mother and Father who through MJ lived the "american dream" sadly ignoring the reaching out for an approval from them.

He buried himself in ways to rid himself of his problems becoming addicted to pain killers and other drugs. Making those around him supply him and "approve" of the solution to the problems he had garnered. Dr. Murray was just a long line of Doctors trying to help MJ. Easy to blame the last guy trying to help isn't it.

The only people who made $$$ were the MOTHER, FATHER, BROTHERS and countless lawyers and doctors. MJ was basically broke.

Great way to teach children . If you don't get your way, just make them pay, never mind who created the problem in the first place. Based on MJ's lifestyle, won't be surprised to be reading about them down the road.

At least we have his music and somewhere there is a great jamming session going on with Elvis, Hendrix, Joplan, Holly, Orbison and all the other icons who will be joined by a "cured" MJ.

PEACE out

Candace Allison   November 8th, 2011 12:17 pm ET

I agree with the verdict ,but I do not but the blame all on the doctor. There was no intentional threat for Jackson to take the medicine.. He was an adult to make his own decision.

Jeanne   November 8th, 2011 12:30 pm ET

I don't think the judge thought that Murray would be a danger to the public, I think he thought that the public would hurt him for what he had done to MJ. He is right where he belongs. I do hope he spends the whole four years behind bars, but we all know with the overcrowding in the jails he probably won't. I didn't like the way his defense team made MJ appear in the court room, we all know MJ didn't administer the dose to himself, why hire a doctor if you can do it. He thought he was hiring a doctor that knew what he was doing, but alas we all know that was a pipe dream. I hope MJ's children are well and can go on from here. Just let them know, all of MJ's fan's wish them well in whatever they do. They have their father's dreams and talent to rely on. I know they will do well.

Jack D.   November 8th, 2011 12:37 pm ET

Michael Jackson and Dr. Murray were equally responsible for his death. The REAL guilty party is Joe Jackson, whose abuse of Michael resulted in his lifelong torment and his need for drugs. Dr. Murray never had a chance for a fair trial, as a result of the whole Jackson family being in court every day, a clearly biased judge, and the mindless Michael Jackson fans surrounding the courthouse, who lack the ability to THINK.
The notion that Dr. Murray is a danger to the public is simply LUDICROUS, but the judge is playing to his audience–the fans.

Jason   November 8th, 2011 12:57 pm ET

They shouldn't have made the whole trial about propofol. It takes way more than what Michael took to kill someone . It should have been a civil suit at best. Michael would have got his way no matter what. If it was a regular person it would be a civil suit. How stupid. I don't think it would have made a difference if he called 911 immediately. He brought it on himself.

brit   November 8th, 2011 1:02 pm ET

Now Conrad Murray is in jail, he should watch re-runs of the tv show MASH

Jason   November 8th, 2011 1:14 pm ET

The need to stop saying that he killed him. If that was the case he would have been on trial for murder. Conrad got a bum deal. He is not a criminal. Should have been civil.

Dora   November 8th, 2011 1:14 pm ET

I agree with the Guilty Verdict! Conrad Murray was not a doctor, but a drug pusher. He clearly abrused his position. Murray should be happy he's not getting a life sentence- MJ did... Murray should take his four years, and think about what he did and allowed to happen. Furthermore, I believe Murray was going to sell Michael's recording at some point in the future. Murray deserve all four years!

Why is California's jail overcrowding problem solved by LAST IN – FIRST OUT? If Murray goes in, shouldn't someone who's been in there longest be released first?

Peggy   November 8th, 2011 1:29 pm ET

Murray had BIG $$ signs in his eyes, he should have never done what he did, even if Michael asked him to, he was the "professtional" he was the "doctor" he should have known better, but... again the taste of $150.000.00 a month just swept him off his feet, he should have helped Michael with the addiction that he had, instead he decieded not to practice and work for MJ 24/7 making 150.000K monthly... I mean if we can't trust out own doctors, who do we trust, that's scary.

SQ   November 8th, 2011 1:45 pm ET

Dr Murray is guility but their was other doctors who should be brought to justice like the Frog Man Dr. A Cline and found who MJ others doctors who abuses their power as a doctor. Give Mr Murray the whole 4yrs which is not enough at all. I wish the same jury had been their to convict Casey Anthony. The family of MJ didnt seem to be able to help him how sad, they seem like nice people , simply minded but nice.Everyboby seemed lik they cared about the money more than they did MJ well being

georgiann Bevins   November 8th, 2011 2:00 pm ET

Murray used med to kill not a gun or knife!! and yes he is a druge puser way didn't we address that ? because he was a DR. so what law dosen't apply to them or money? some time's I think there is no hope for us...

Terry McGraw   November 8th, 2011 4:24 pm ET

Yes, finally a just verdict. I was so nervous and finally guilty was said and it was still bitter sweet. MJ will never come back and this doctor will try and make alot of money doing interviews or writing a book. I hate the way he tried to blame this on MJ and everyone else except for himself. Well lets just hope he does his 4 years in prison.

Caroline   November 8th, 2011 6:40 pm ET

Conrad Murray is certainly guilty as charged. He clearly failed to meet the standard of care and was incredibly reckless and negligent in providing propofol to MJ. He deserves to lose his medical license in any and every state in which he is currently licensed to practice. He also deserves to do some real time in jail. He certainly deserves to do more than 4 years,. he took a life. The other doctors that were also involved in providing MJ with his drug fixes should also be held accountable by the justice system. It's time that all of these feel good docs be outed and jailed. MJ also is responsible for his own death. He was a spoiled and dysfunctional star who demanded and got whatever he wanted. Sad but true, He was an absolute musical genius, but extraordinarily dysfunctional man. Finally, the hysterical, circus-like behavior of many of those who waited outside the courthouse was absolutely appalling. Sad that they had nothing else to do with their lives.

Peni   November 8th, 2011 8:30 pm ET

For the people who cannot quite connect why Conrad is responsible:
If in a medical setting, it would be concidered a medical malpractice-negligence. BUT, because it was NOT in a medical setting, and the doctor supplied the drug and administered it as well as it being available (left out) made it a criminal case; Involuntarily. The moment Conrad gave him whatever drug, MJ was no longer responsible. What made matters worse, was when he tried to cover it up.
It is sad, period. Read the interview, it was finger pointing accross the board. That didn't help his case whatsoever. At first I felt just taking away his license, but after reviewing the interview, he really ought to receive time incarcerated. Not because of who MJ was, but because of what Conrad did. I feel for him too, but if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
Lay people are sent to jail everyday for involuntary manslaughter cases. What's different about this one? He shouldn't get any special treatment.

D/Trail   November 9th, 2011 12:09 am ET

Why does people keep sayin house arrest ?, The Judge said it was a HOMICIDE !!! So it was a violent crime and Murray should go to jail for the max 4 years 2 bad not for longer. Murray had his fair trial now off to jail where he belongs. Jurors deliberated for ten hours and should have thinks for all their hard work in making this correct verdict !!
To all the lucky fans that got to surround the courthouse good goin for showin your love for the king of pop rock, kids, fans and family. Think if all his fans from all across the world could've made it there :} The mindless ones gettin paid by murray wouldn't been able to stand there for the killer . Murray is a danger to the public so they should keep him in there for the max he could do this to your dad if he gets out then make another movie about your dad and how he killed him
I loved it when they handcuffed him so we could all watch thats what anybody else would've got why should a doctor be any different
The jury knew Murray was not a scapegoat they seen his lies and what all he kept from everybody No appeal is what I say he killed the true king MJJ !!!! NEVER be another ...........

ernest pacheco   November 9th, 2011 10:31 am ET

...The taxpayer's of california are going to be irate (and rightfully so) if and when Dr. Murray is released early due to over crowding or house arrest after spending millions of dollars on this case which is obviously a MAL-PRACTICE NEGLIGENCE case that has no merit in a criminal court. Let's be honest and sincere, had this not been MJ we would not be here and the only reason a conviction was obtained is because who was involved...Dr. Murray, simply put was the fall guy but the real loser's may be the taxpayer's of California...

Deb LA   November 9th, 2011 10:37 am ET

*To those that think the Guilty verdict is unfair*

You must understand how the law works. The laws can only be applied the way they are written. The prosecutions, verdicts and sentences must be carried out as such. The laws that apply in this case are narrow, and focus only on the the critical factors that led to the moment of actual death.

Yes, this case represents how laws need to change, but as many legal experts will tell you... write your Congressman to have legislation changed to better deal with our changing times. IRL our laws are not holistic, and are more of a mosaic [or morass], seldom painting or supplying remedy and a true sense of justice. There will just be more cases and more trials and verdicts or settlements in *civil* courts, but no more *criminal* charges in relation to MJ. It's a bummer, but there it is.

I really do wish there was basic education in K-12 about this process, it would really bring better understanding, and maybe the awareness for change in laws that you claim are unfair or aren't enough for today's issues.

ShakingMyHead   November 9th, 2011 10:41 am ET

As a good lesson, I do hope they start pulling in these Dr's and at least one family member who used to 'treat' Michael with this Propofol, not to mention digging deeper to find out who all was involved in this murder behind the scenes.

Dr. Klein might be one of the best surgeons, BUT he sure has loose lips and speaks very derrogitorily when his good true Friend is no longer here to defend himself! He has already buried his assets so nobody can come and sue him. I still think Klein scammed Michael and was in fact the seed donor to 2 of Michael's children. The authorities should go on a serious Dr. hunt and pull each and every one of them in who treated Michael with this stuff; from the other Vegas Dr., to the Dr. up in the NY area, and do not turn a blind eye to that family member of Michael's either.

Bob   November 9th, 2011 12:28 pm ET

There's no doubt that Michael Jackson's family and close
friends knew he had a problem with controlled substances,
painkillers, and sedation products. Why then, if everyone
loved him so much, didn't someone take the initiative through
intervention or whatever means necessary, get Michael
the help of professionals experienced with addictions, rather
than just giving him more and more drugs. I don't believe
you can convince me that they just didn't know he had this
problem or addiction. What I believe is that Michael needed
to get himself totally clean before embarking on a 51 show
tour. Who's to blame, , the family, the doctors and
all his close friends

Deb LA   November 9th, 2011 2:38 pm ET

Bob: //Who's to blame, , the family, the doctors and
all his close friends//
Ultimately, Michael died because he was uncared for by all the above... the ones he trusted the most.

ShakingMyHead: Agreed!

Deb LA   November 9th, 2011 2:48 pm ET

Frankly, it didn't help CM's case that he had only old poor people from 10 years ago as character witnesses. They don't talk back, they won't sue if they die, while he fleeces Medicare... just like his dad. Both were gifted in words and appearances of good, instead of ACTUAL good.

lolita   November 9th, 2011 3:06 pm ET

Michael Jackson was a stone cold addict, the cartilage in his nose collapsed years ago from snorting too much coke, then he took a liking to the opiate addiction, Michael killed himself, slowly but surely.

Paul   November 9th, 2011 3:18 pm ET

Do not pass "GO". Do not collect $200. Go directly to jail.

Peni   November 9th, 2011 7:58 pm ET

Ernest Pacheco, I understand what you are saying, however
Conrad, he surrendered his license the moment he began "smuggleing" propofol into California. He sold his license for $150,000.00 a month to keep a secret while administering the drug.
Did MJ force him to? No, Conrad was a willing participant.
Should he serve time for his actions? Yes, self-will ran riot in this situation. He had money problems and bought in to the temptation. It was Conrads' conduct that got him where he is today.
It's outright sad, both had wants greater than their needs. MJ paid the ultimate price; his life. Conrad, he can still enjoy family/friends.
Picture a drunk/addict as a passenger in a car, the driver caused a wreck. Who is responsible?

Jayne   November 10th, 2011 4:13 am ET

The public is outraged because of the truth of Michael Jackson death. I see no blame and nor definate reason Dr.Conrad Murray should be held accountable for any type of responsiblity for what took place. There are a number of the population that take the same medications as Jackson did...the only difference is having the self control to administor your medications~ PROPERLY TO YOURSELF. This verdit is an outrage for Dr. Conrad Murray. I find myself wondering "why and what went wrong?"

john   November 10th, 2011 10:07 am ET

i think that he should get time in prison for what he did not house arrset. its like saying its ok you did nothing wrong.

Jone   November 14th, 2011 1:48 am ET

Jail what about jail...........just collect $200

Tammy   November 14th, 2011 1:25 pm ET

I have listened to Michael Jackson since I was a child to present age of 36.Why would the name of the concert be This Is It, does that not speak words.Conrad Murray found guilty of involuntary manslaughter I do not think Michael Jackson would be happy about this sentencing cause Conrad Murray was there as his friend and his doctor and as I heard Michael was the 1 who kept asking for the profofol.
I remember Elvis's last song was named I Did It My Way and then he was found dead from drugs and let me tell you an awesome singer!

Trish   November 14th, 2011 4:14 pm ET

I am baffled by the prosecution & verdict in this case. Michael Jackson didn't receive enough propofol to kill a person. Giving propofol to someone outside a hospital setting, while not a "best practice" is not actually against the law. Prescription drugs can legally be given for off-label use (in this case sleep instead of immobility/amnesia for surgery). Dr. Murray's actions might prevent him getting/keeping hospital privileges, but that's very different from committing an actual crime.

Then there's Michael Jackson's bizarre behavior. Getting demerol with his Botox & temporary fillers – when most people get a soft squishy ball to hold & squeeze during this very brief procedure? Having trouble sleeping & he seeks to be anesthetized in his home, instead of going seeking a sleep clinic to find & treat the problem? It seems he went well out of his way to find doctors willing to give him bizarre treatments for bizarre reasons.

kevin hennigh   November 29th, 2011 2:44 pm ET

this is a total miscarage of justis! you people act like poor little inocent mj got sucked in by the evil c. murry. the truth is mj was a total worthless manipulating child molesting hard core JUNKIE. mj was the one who sucked c. murry into mjs web. as far as c.m. recording that conversation with mj didnt any of you morons ever think cm recorded that conversation to show mj wht a problem he has.as far as any restitution, dont make me laugh there was never going to be even one concert. mj was to much of a worthless drug addict to ever do anything constructive ever again. if you ask me mjs family should blame no one but their selfs ,mainly mjs father as he seems to be the reason for mjs problems. k. hennigh

MJ   November 29th, 2011 6:05 pm ET

A tough, but fair sentence. It's now time for the Jackson family to step up and take some responsibility for this tragedy too. They sat by and did NOTHING for years while their son and brother slowly but surely killied himself with prescription drugs and increasing mental illness, all in the presence of his beautiful children, their grandchildren, their niece and nephews. Where was the Jackson family then? Cashing the checks. Shame on all of them.

lee   November 30th, 2011 2:47 pm ET

MJ was nothing more than achild molester who in the end got bit by karma and the rest of the jackson's need to get a job and forget about this lawsuit they never done anything but ride his coat tails does the fans of MJ get to sue his family for there part in enabling his addictions or should i call it neglect to act in there brothers best interest or could all they see was dollar signs they are just as much to blame in his death as anybody
