The LAPD Interview: Top 5 revelations

Posted: 01:57 PM ET

45 more minutes of Dr. Conrad Murray's LAPD interview were played in court this morning.  His statement included several significant and interesting pieces of information. But we're here to help you cut to the chase, so here are the 5 "must know" details from what was played today in court.

1. Cause of death  Jackson's family members asked Dr. Murray why MJ died and he says he told them he didn’t know. Dr. Murray says "that's the reason why I was recommending to the family to have an autopsy, because I also wanted to know."

2. The 'other' doctor  Dr. Murray said he heard that Jackson visited Dr. Arnold Klein three times a week.  During defense attorney Ed Chernoff’s opening statement, he said Dr. Klein administered the painkiller Demerol to Jackson and the pop star was addicted to it. A toxicologist has testified Demerol was not in Jackson’s system.

3. Marijuana  Detectives asked Dr. Murray about marijuana found in Jackson’s home and whether Jackson smoked weed.  Dr. Murray replied he didn’t know, but Jackson wore “excessive cologne” that may have masked it.

4. Out of touch?  Detectives asked Dr. Murray why they had trouble getting in touch with him despite leaving voicemails and multiple text messages.  Dr. Murray blamed it on being bombarded by people trying to contact him after Jackson’s death.

5. Not enough food or drink  Dr. Murray said Jackson often suffered from dehydration because he didn't like to eat and didn't drink enough. He said Jackson's mother Katherine used to have to force him to eat something.

Complete courtroom coverage of the Conrad Murray trial airs live on HLN from gavel to gavel. It’s also on In Session on truTV from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET every weekday.

How did the propofol end up in Michael's stomach? The same way the Lidocaine did...through the blood...anything diffused in the blood, can diffuse into the stomach...Do they think Michael drank the Lidocaine as well?
The prosecutors really need to make that simple point...Nancy Grace has asked this question to different people without a clear answer... Someone please make that point..
This all comes back to Murray's gross negligence! He should've been monitoring Michael at all times, but he was busy busy busy that morning with emails, faxes, texts, phone calls...you name it....other than monitoring his patient...which was nothing more than a meal ticket for him...

wendy   October 11th, 2011 2:20 pm ET

Why is everyon taking Murray's interview about what other people said to him, for example what Michael said, or his daughter or his mother as all true? Murray could be lying and making up all these conversations. He was lying when he told the ER docs, paramedics what he gave MJ.
Conrad is a liar, and is lying when he says what MJ said to him and what his children said to him after he died. Conrad made up all these conversations and MJ is dead and cannot defend himself against Conrad and his lies.

Leanne Sharpe   October 11th, 2011 2:22 pm ET

Out of the 5 the only thing I see is about him wanting them to do an autopsy. He knew there would be one anyway, therefore he thinks he's looking like an innocent man w/ that remark. Smart remark at the time. Why didn't he just say he had no idea in regards to the pot? He probably didn't know anything about it but he's into full mode lieing stage by now so he just throws out the cologne comment.

David   October 11th, 2011 2:47 pm ET

Everything that Dr. Murray said that Michael told him about wanting propofol, is this not hear-say from a dead man ?

Sylvia   October 11th, 2011 2:48 pm ET

It is kind of impossible for MJ to have given himself and injection of the propofal, if he was on a drip and Dr, Murray was monitoring him, when Murray went to the bathroom , he d/n mention stopping the IV, so it was left on a drip, leaving MJ still sleeping, because he was getting the propofal by IV drip, unless the drip was discontinued MJ would remain sleeping! You awaken once the propofal is stopped, and did not stop the drip b4 leaving for the bathroom! Therefore being on the phone with several ppl all of the propofal entered MJ, while not being monitored , overdose of propofal! Therfore , being guilty!

Deb LA   October 11th, 2011 2:53 pm ET

Stunning that Murray has a ready answer for everything, and with no concern how ridiculous he sounds. He thinks everyone ELSE is stupid. Look who's on trial now... projecting much?

Yes, Leanne, #1 is a total red-herring statement. That's also to cover up for the fact that he knew he already knew he didn't report propofol to UCLA ER docs, and then realized an autopsy would find it. Dumb. Dumb.

Katie RN   October 11th, 2011 2:54 pm ET

After hearing the autopsy, had Dr. Murrray been performing CPR correctly, most likely he would have sustained broken ribs during the performing of CPR

edith   October 11th, 2011 3:00 pm ET

I find it quite interesting that everyone seems to think Dr. Murray was forth coming with his comments on the events leading up to Michael Jackson's death. To me he has been everything but... forthcoming is when someone readily gives you infromation directly after the event not two days after when he has had time to get his story straight. The proper time to interview Dr. Murray was directly after the event, that's when you would have gotten to the truth. Dr Murray had to be tracked down, he did not come to the police after the event, whether it had been deemed a homicide or not. If you have no culpability or anything to hide why not talk to the police to alleviate any suspicions any one had, as to his involvement. The only thing I think is a mistake in this case is that not all the doctors who were illegally supplying Michael with drugs are not all on trial here. Dr. Murray did not contribute to his demise all by himself. I am glad I am not a juror on this trial, because the defense side is missing a few defendants, and I can not convict Dr. Murray solely for this travesty.

Sylvia   October 11th, 2011 3:19 pm ET

If MJ was so schooled on how to use propofal , why would u go the bathroom, he should have stopped the drip b4 going to the bathroom , knowing he had all this knowledge and no one to monitor him! even if MJ had to wake up for a few minutes, but leaving drip on he know MJ would continue to sleep and he could than make all the phone calls he made. MY point MJ was left unattended for longer than 2 minutes , when he returned to the room he noticed him not breathing, and it also shows that he could not have made calls or received calls while being in the room! He(Dr. Murray) admitted not really being familar with Diprivan(the milk) and he should have known that he had given MJ other medication through IV which gets to the bloodstream quicker than taking by mouth, so MJ had sedatives in his system which would make the profapof more effective, causing an overdose effect.

Dora Stroud   October 11th, 2011 3:22 pm ET

I would not want you guys to sit on a jury if I was being tried. Why? Because many of you are assuming facts not yet in evidence. Remember, the prosecution is presenting their case. The defense has to present their case... The problem with all of this is that you people have always thought that MJ was greater than GOD!!! You deem him as the greatest person on EARTH.. He was just an entertainer!!! Go figure!!! As a 13th juror, I will continue to listen to the case and then, once both sides have rested, render "my" decison, based on my knowledge of the facts presented.

Sylvia   October 11th, 2011 3:26 pm ET

Regarding the tape that Dr. Murray recorded , he did that in case MJ let him go, he seen how MJ had no problem letting ppl go, if they didn't do what he wanted , and he was weining MJ off the "milk" what other reason would he have for taping MJ in that state? and whatever he was on Dr. Murray certainly gave it to him! who knows what else he was giving MJ without MJ knowledge1 Because I am sure MJ didn't know he was recording him!

Kelly P   October 11th, 2011 3:26 pm ET

No matter what defense Murray has, he was morally and professionally wrong for administering Propofol to MJ. Murray's Medical Ethics were put under the rug for MONEY.

Sylvia   October 11th, 2011 3:30 pm ET

As long as Dr. Murray was givng MJ Propofal for 2 months your system gets use to it just like any other narcotic or drug you are taking so there for he would need more and more, what u started out with a low dose, his body would start to require more and more, not less!

Andre   October 11th, 2011 3:32 pm ET

Four gallons of propofol! That's enough to put the whole Al Qaeda insurgency to sleep. This doctor is out of his mind or what? Notice how he remains eerily stoic and expressionless; he knows he screwed up. This doctor has betrayed the Hippocratic Oath; he is guilty as sin. However, Michael also had a huge responsibility in his own demise.

Don   October 11th, 2011 3:33 pm ET

How to get away with murder

If I were the defense, I would make following argument:

Doctor Murray indicated that he injected Michael Jackson with 25 mg of propofol and "started an infusion" of propofol per his recorded interview

If, as speculated, Michael Jackson awoke during Doctor Murray;s absence, could Michael Jackson have reached over to the drip control of the propofol IV and opened it to continue his sleep? Since the only flow control on the IV was NOT a pump but merely an manually adjustable device for crude flow control of the drug, the inrush of propofol would have again immediately sedated Michael Jackson but the wide open flow would have killed him very quickly – very plausible explanation – NOT GUILTY

Makes more sense than the other theories proposed so far…

Sylvia   October 11th, 2011 3:34 pm ET

and that poor excuse , that he didn't call 911 because he didn't know the zip code, please! he knew the addres and town he was in! and he had time to call Michael Amir, and didn't want to have to explain what was wrong, he could have said , just call, I don't have time to explain! also he could have called to one of the house keepers or even the chef to come help him move MJ off of the bed, but did he know he was too busy giving cpr and mouth to mouth, Please

bella bella   October 11th, 2011 3:55 pm ET

When Murray and his lawyers walked in for their interview...in the prior days, after Murray told his lawyers what had happened...they backtracked and figure out what his story should be to cover his butt on every angle possible. They depended on the timing of that interview to be just an investigation of a death...not a criminal homocide

This is what we know...Conrad Murray needed money and needed it badly ...he sold his ethics and decency for $150k. AS a physician he should have said no to Michael Jackson...He didn't. He gave him propotol every night as a sedative when it is an anesthetic and should really only be used as such. I think his ego go tthe best of him. He loved being MJ's doctor and loved even more that this job might be able to save him from bankruptcy....and he did not want to lose this job...so I think he needed to keep Michael sickly...I am not sure he did not give Michael other drugs...I would be interested to know the dates of the other medicines from other doctors... Wouldn't he normally coordinate his practice on behave of Jackson with any other medications from other doctors.

marcial   October 11th, 2011 4:13 pm ET

Insession forgot to mention that based on toxicology report~ Marijuana was not detected in michael jackson's blood and urine! murray is a liar! it's a protocol in the UCLA hosp that a social workers are the one who're responsible to comfort the family thats why they were there, murray walked out of the hosp and didn't comeback! all murray's claimed he wanted to save michael's life was all drama and fake! he knew michael died long before the paramedics came! propofol don't have antidote but intubation and appropriate oxygen should be available to revived michael's life in a matter seconds, but there was no such equipment in the house, and murray was busy talking to his baby mamas! murray was not preparedout, unskilled, neligent and killed michael jackson! he don't care about his patient he only cares about himself!

edith   October 11th, 2011 4:21 pm ET

I personally think that Dr. Murray was in the room when the durest occurred. He was too involved with his conversation with the cocktail waitress to notice his patient is dying!! His taped interview is practiced and rehearsed. Sunny stated that she did not think Murray's attorney(cheffron) would tell his client what to say and what not to say. I beg to differ. A high profile case as this I would not put anything pass an attorney, who wants to win a case.

J Rinehart   October 11th, 2011 4:31 pm ET

In the coroners testimony, why have they not mentioned the catheter.

katzy   October 11th, 2011 7:40 pm ET

MJ Enablers: 20+ doctors, AEG, JACKSON FAMILY, they all enabled , looked the other way...and did nothing.

BAT   October 11th, 2011 7:44 pm ET

Don't forget that Murray had the freakin heat and fire place on in the room. Michael was dead all night. Murray turn on the freakin heat and fire place to keep Michael warm. So that the paramedics wouldn't determine that he had been dead for more than a few minutes...
he is such a liar

Alaina Zepeda   October 11th, 2011 8:10 pm ET

Except his fingerprints were not found on any of the equipment or medication bottles. Nothing is said about Michael wearing gloves while he slept which would be cause for his fingerprints not showing up.

Shaneka   October 11th, 2011 8:21 pm ET

Maybe the pot was Murrays and he left it behind trying to get outta there so fast. Remember Michaels assistant, Michael Amir, quoted Murray as saying he was hungry while at the hospital. Maybe he was high when treating Michael. That could explain his lack of common sense, performing sloppy cpr, and more. And how could he not know a zip code for 911?. There is no zip code for 911. You just dial it. The main is guilty of gross negligence and should be held accountable.

RIP MJ

Elliott Reed   October 11th, 2011 9:01 pm ET

1. Michael Jackson had access to lorazepam in his bathroom.
2. 20 of the 2 mg tablets were gone from the pill bottle.
3. The amount of lorazepam in MJ's blood was consistent
with him taking 9 pills.
4. The LA Corner lacks critical knowledge about a pharma
death and critical thinking skills as to the cause of death.
5. There is reasonable doubt as to the cause of death and
when there is reasonable doubt juries don't convict.

Bonus: 6. Lots of celebrities kill themselves accidentally by taking too much drugs.

sylvia   October 11th, 2011 10:00 pm ET

MJ had bottles of prescription meds in the medicine cabinet in his bathroom... If CM was giving MJ sleep aides intravenously or by injection, how did medication end up in the stomach of MJ at autopsy??? Perhaps MJ knew that CM would not give him the amount of sleep aid he was needing\wanting and took the medication before settling into bed without CMs knowledge. The meds being absorbed into the bloodstream added to the effect of the propofal, without CMs knowlege, therefore leaving CM confused and wih many questions of his own??? CM is not a murderer, he is also a victim.

suzan   October 11th, 2011 10:30 pm ET

aloha- singer michael jackson and his family and his sisters and brothers and his parent's should had done something early then too late now that mj is dead at his grave. and i do blame on mj and his sisters and brothers and his parent's for not helping mj a long time ago. now that mj entire family is kids and his sisters and his brothers and his parent's did nothing to help mj a long time ago it being blame on dr.murry. mj did hired doctor to lived in his house right in front of his 3 kids. all mj should had done was to go to a doctor office instead having a doctor living in his house. same goes for anna nickole smith too.

Conrad   October 11th, 2011 11:59 pm ET

Good summary of the revelations. But what about doing simple labs on MJ's blood?? Haven't heard once that ConMan Murray checked his blood to check the concentration of things like Valium, Ativan. Would've made sense, right?

Another big revelation in the LAPD recording: MJ liked to sleep with music blasting in his room. Do you need med school to know enough to shut off the damn music? Huh, ConMan?

krimise   October 12th, 2011 1:09 am ET

Murray started his frantic lying as soon as he realized that his VIP patient Michael Jackson, was indeed dead. Had he not left Michael's side and went to the bathroom for the 2 minutes that he is claiming, I wonder if that would never have happened, and Michael would still be here today?

Sherry   October 12th, 2011 9:32 am ET

I find this trial very interesting and am compelled to watch it however I do believe it should not be televised. There are so many private matters that are made public now and I think its disrespectable to Michael Jackson and his family. Michael Jackson is such a great talented man who contributed so much to the world and to be embarrassed this way really bothers me. May justice be done and may Michael rest in peace.

Sylvia   October 12th, 2011 1:30 pm ET

This Cardiologist is an excellent witness! I love him, he is intellegent, precise and not rattled. This the type of doctor I would well appreciate!

Viola   October 13th, 2011 4:51 pm ET

I am wondering if the vial of proprofol that was noticed in the i.v. drip solution had the metal casing been removed to allow the drug to flow freely into the veins of Mr. Jackson? Please respond

roz   October 14th, 2011 10:30 pm ET

I find it incredible that we are to believe that Michael Jackson took Lorazapam and self injected propofol in the 2 mins Conrad Murray says he was out of the room!! Being hooked up to a catheter and a saline drip would certainly make it extremely difficult to accomplish all that in 2 mins??

patms   October 16th, 2011 12:01 pm ET

It sounds more like Murry was taping Michael Jackson under drugs as if to keep notes on writing a future book. Sad the final match between Jackson and one of his doctors was one where both were there for their own selfish reasons

Elaine   October 17th, 2011 1:29 pm ET

MJ had a BAD reaction to WHAT? The Doctors did not ask Conrad Murry to answer this question!

Tammy   October 17th, 2011 9:38 pm ET

@Sherry
I agree it's disrespectful to publicize personal matters, but Michael Jackson has been disrespected (to say the least) for decades. Why would that change now? I think it's good that this trial is televised, because the truth can't be worse than media spin (unless you're Murray). Still they will spin (disrespect) for ratings and this article is a perfect example.
Re: MUST KNOW–marijuana
Anyone who listened to the whole interview heard the detective say that the tiny amount of marijuana dug up by "family members" was so old and rotten it was thought to be heroin until tests identified it as marijuana. It was found along with two empty cigarette packs (no discussion of age or condition). As I recall it, Murray's comments (if they're to be believed anyway) were in reference to cigarettes, but I don't remember the exact dialogue, so it's possible he was referring to smoking in general.
Oh, and what were those toxicology results on marijuana again? Oh yeah, NEGATIVE. I noticed that didn't make the "must know" list.

ChasUGC   October 18th, 2011 12:05 am ET

Guilty. The facts are already present to determine his guilt. He treated MJ with a dangerous anestetic without the proper equipment, the proper environment or proper experience. He was administering dangerous sedatives on top of it. Then, he leaves the room and talks to his baby mama's. All the time, Michael is dying. And, then instead of calling 911, he calls MJ's assistant?!! Why did he not call 911? He was too busy giving CPR to call 911, but he had time to call the assistant?! You don't need a Zip Code to call 911. He did have a phone, and he was using it to talk to the baby mama's, all while MJ was dying. And, then he lies and says he didn't know what the treatment was that caused the emergency? Forget your ego, you killed a man by lack of morals, ethics, and neglect. 'Fess UP Dr. Murray.

ripley65   October 18th, 2011 7:07 am ET

I agree, Roz. They say MJ swallowed 8 or 9 and a half of the Lorazapams and then self injected the propofol himself....in 2 mins. Um.....no. By the time MJ would have gotten the cap off the pill bottle then swallow them, grab the syringe and the propofol bottle, then fill the syringe with the propofol to inject himself is going to take longer than 2 mins. CM is just lying, straight out. He lied about comforting the kids in the hospital, and he's lying about everything else. Plus, giving all those other drugs within the timeline he himself admits to is crazy in itself...there goes MJ's liver. Maybe MJ would have gotten sleep if the (ahem) Doc wouldn't have keeping him awake recording him.

Tammy   October 20th, 2011 3:22 am ET

@Dora Stroud
The problem here is that we haven't heard the defense's case. Like the jurors, we should wait for their feeble attempt before condemning the "doctor", even though it's clear the defense is just grasping at straws.
As for the notion that anyone deems Murray guilty because they think Michael was greater than God, one's opinion of Michael is irrelevant. Murray's actions were beyond reckless. Michael Jackson was a HUMAN BEING, not just an entertainer, an icon, a novelty to be ridiculed, or a meal ticket, the way he was treated his entire life. Regardless of his alleged drug abuse (which isn't supported by autopsy findings), he deserves justice. And though he was far from perfect, he was ONE OF the greatest human beings on earth, a dedicated humanitarian who also happened to be an insanely talented artist and entertainer.

Sharon   October 20th, 2011 11:30 am ET

Why isnt a 50 year old man resposible for his actions? Did he inject his self? If we put gun under his pillow and he shoots his self is that manslaughter for us?

Elizabeth   October 25th, 2011 1:10 am ET

During Murray's interview,he stated that he was unable to give detectives an accurate account of time events as they occurred because he didn't have a watch and there weren't any clocks in the room.....Murray you are so busted!!!!!!!....During the later part of the interview,Murray stated that he look at the time.....Hope the detectives caught his conflicting statements. Moreover,he had 2 cell phones in his pocket.......Don't cell phones display the time?
Murray is arrogant.....He entered that interview believing he is smarter than the detectives......Pride comes before the fall,Mr Murray!!!!!!!!

Cheryl   October 26th, 2011 1:48 pm ET

Since the prosecution wants to show the jury how greedy conrad murray was, i feel the defense should have been allowed to show how MJ went to great extent (which is what a addict does) to get this propofonol. I do believe MJ got up and saw that conrad murray wasn't around a gave himself an extra boost of propofonol. No conrad murray shouldn't of had it lying around the house and tried to conceal evidence. I think he made a really bad judgment call.

Cheryl   October 26th, 2011 1:51 pm ET

I pray that God has mercy on conrad murray, I pray that there are several jury members (idiots as in the casey anthony trial) who feel that conrad murray made a mistake and find him not guilty.

Henri   October 30th, 2011 2:10 pm ET

KatieRN: MJ did have broken ribs, 4 of them , separated at the sternum. See autopsy report on Internet at Sci American. MJ could have self injected proposal. Especially if a pre filled syringe was at the bed side ready for next use. Oral lorazapam was taken a few hours prior to death.
C.M. Is NOT guiltless but the trial is not over either. I don't think M.J. self injected himself but it is not impossible that he did. C.M. from much of testimony seems to be a good doc who made a bad mistake, we all have to go to the bathroom and sometimes quite urgently, so let's be a little gentle here. Let the trial run its course then make our judgements.

sharese beasley   October 30th, 2011 3:55 pm ET

well the bottle liquid of drugs the dr. murray had more than ten gallons of those low dose mmmm I am not sure of those liquid of drugs, they might be those fifty gms of pills, the doctor was an idiots, saying why did jackson killed himself. I shoud also jackson was very so sick when he went to the rehearsal when jackson went home sick he should eat, and drink so he cannot be an eating disorder. that's why jackson fell ill so the doctor could give mj some those pills not low or high dose of drugs, liquid drugs so mj could get very well. he dialed 911 call and he saying mj was not very breathing he's 50 yrs old at of his drugs liquid that the doctor had he's an monster!

ILUVUSA2   November 1st, 2011 7:05 pm ET

At the very least, Dr. Murray should lose his license. The doctors for Elvis also lost their licenses. Clearly any doctor who is prescribing dangerous levels of drugs to any patient, famous or not, should be under the scrutiny that this man is.

This isn't the first time this has happened, and it won't be the last, unfortunately.

Atinya   November 4th, 2011 9:13 pm ET

i believe we all reserve our judgemental comments and leave the work to those responsible in bringing out justice.May be ,if it was one of us it will be worse than the whole situation appears. However,if people share my beliefs, then the 'inevitable is inevitable' whether someone kill you or you kill yourself .You still will die someday. Is it so sad that MJ passed away. This shouldn't open the floodgate of verbal vitimisation on the accused person when the verdict is still pending. Let's wait for the Jury, for the verdict that they will bring out will be a comprehensive one drawn from all sources__from evidences to common sense.

Jeph   November 7th, 2011 2:33 pm ET

The departure from standard of care in the use of propofol and other medications will cause the California Board of Medicine to revoke this man's medical license. He will lose the civil lawsuit against him by Jackson's family. Given MJ's history, however, he is not guilty of a criminal offense.

harried r   November 7th, 2011 3:22 pm ET

all the way thru the trial i was just waiting for doc murray to jump up and yell i'm guilty i did it i was wreckless and negligent

Joburgboy   November 8th, 2011 4:15 am ET

Conrad Murray was certainly unethical and Michael Jackson on the other hand was an addict.A greedy unethical professional striving to save the life of an addict...it certainly can't augur out correctly.

sirwinston1941   November 8th, 2011 11:15 am ET

This trial was interesting. It was not an open and shut case for the prosecutor or the defense. First, Michael was already prescribed painkillers drugs after his accident, but only he and his doctors or specialists knew how bad michale's burn were and the aftermath he would suffer. Time and time again, different medications and drugs was authorized to Michael; and he continue to take and get them by any means necessary! Dr. Murray can into the picture for the care and the concerns of Michael. What he should have stop immediately was any medications that took special equipment and a specialist care to administer them. He did not do that, and while he knew Michael addition and Michael willingness to get what he wanted, Dr. Murray should have taken strict precautions no matter what Michael wanted and tryed to do! A doctor is responsible for his patient health once that person comes under his care, he remain responsible! There has to be more who was also responsible for Michael drugs and his addiction to them. They too, must be accountable.

steve   November 29th, 2011 8:40 pm ET

What ever happened to tort and the concept of malpractice? This case is nothing more than a bad physician committing what appears to be bad medicine resulting in bad outcome. Why is this physician being criminally charged? We live in a society that shares in mob mentality that wants to criminalize everything from the war on drugs to the war on terror. This is a simple case of medical malpractice that should have been decided quietly between the estate of MJ and this particular physician. It should have never been sensationalized.
