I know the Peruvian prison system from a former prisioner there. It is HORRIBLE to be a prisioner there-anywhere in the "system". You did good Joran!

trish   June 17th, 2010 7:12 pm ET

awwwwwwwwww.....poor joran, your not going to have the luxuries your use to.enjoy!! you just had the chip on your shoulder knocked off!

B Duncan   June 17th, 2010 8:31 pm ET

Let him rot in jail!!! He doesn't deserve anything better. We know of these two girls lives that have been affected by this low life, chances are there are more

Cece   June 18th, 2010 1:35 am ET

It is ironic that Joran Van der sloot wants to go to Aruba because he is in fear for his life in Peru.
I wonder if he feels what it is like to be confronted with the realization that he may be forced into a situation where people he doesnt know can get him and kill him.
Similar to the way Natalee Holloway must have felt: helpless and terrified!

awesomedutch   June 18th, 2010 4:25 am ET

I'm ashamed of my Dutch citizenship because of what he did. We all know he did this more then once. I hope he'll get the max and stay in jail for the rest of his life.

Susan   June 18th, 2010 9:44 am ET

Vinnie please ask Jean Casarez about inmates in her video showing the upper floors from the courtyard that appear to have a knife and wire cutters..I noticed it when Nancy Grace was showing the videos and nobody made a comment on it. thanks.

John Wallace   June 18th, 2010 10:58 am ET

If found not guilty by reason of insanity, would it be "possible" that the defendant could come back in as little as 90 days, with the Dr. saying now that he is on medication that has been refined for him, he is no longer a threat to himself or others, and be set free, even though he had committed murder?

Nunzi   June 18th, 2010 11:15 am ET

To Susan.....
I noticed that knife too & was astounded there was no comment on it!
The extended arm appeared to be wearing street clothes, so, I assumed it was not a uniformed officer or prison "Staff". That was NOT a little "paring" knife either!!

Amaile   June 18th, 2010 1:18 pm ET

I wish In Session would provide video or a way to watch the programming live on line.

Ann   June 18th, 2010 1:54 pm ET

What if Becker got out and developed a delusion that the judge is "Satin"?

Jan   June 18th, 2010 2:26 pm ET

For Jean Casarez:
Security doesn't seem to be very strong at the Castro Castro prison. What is the prison's record on escapes by prisoners? Would this be a prison that Van Der Sloot might easily be able to escape from? – Van Der Sloot seems to have financial resources that most of the prisoners in Castro Castro don't have and an escape might easily be pulled off.

Bob Wolf   June 18th, 2010 3:36 pm ET

I saw the video showing his cell and quite frankly it's better than some of the place I stayed at in my 20 years in the USAF...he's still got to easy.

Sven   June 18th, 2010 6:20 pm ET

Totally shocked by show's revelation 100 (?) more Dutch citizens besides Joran in Castro? Follow-up please!! What crimes are they charged with? Isn't that alot of Dutch for one prison in one city in one S. American country? What are the Dutch criminals up to in S. America? This is a story, yes?

Ron   June 18th, 2010 6:55 pm ET

It looks utterly horrible. I wonder if serious crime rates would drop in the United States if our government adopted prisons similar to Peru's. I know I wouldn't want to go there if that's what I had to look forward to. I would be the biggest Mr. Goody-Goody-Two-Shoes you ever would see.

Sven   June 19th, 2010 7:13 am ET

Did I see right? All the cells in that wing had bars EXCEPT Joran and the only other guy in the unit? Their rooms were open?

not your fault   June 19th, 2010 6:23 pm ET

To 'awesomedutch':

I don't think you should be ashamed at all. People of every nationality, religion, ethnicity, etc. from all over the world perform these hateful and hurtful crimes every day. Your citizenship does not affiliate you or your neighbors directly to his actions...although, I understand what you mean. I'm ashamed of our behavior in the U.S. sometimes too.

The whole world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket as they say (wars, crime, greed, environmental catastrophes, etc.). I'm sorry my children will only see it get worse in their time.

Best Wishes,
tc

Rick   June 20th, 2010 8:16 am ET

Hope they keep him there, a U.S. or aruba prison would be to nice for him.

Elizabeth   June 21st, 2010 9:26 am ET

Which of Joran van der Sloot's stories do I believe? None of them, in its entirety. I believe that there are small pieces of truth in each of them and stringing the facts together will provide the answer to what happened to Natalee Holloway. For example, in the first statement, van der Sloot said that Natalee stumbled getting out of the car in the front of the Holiday Inn. We know that she did not ever arrive back at the hotel, but I believe that she did stumble – injuring her knees – perhaps as she scrambled or ran to get away from him. Her body was hidden for some brief time on the island before it was placed in its present resting place, but van der Sloot was already preparing his cover story. If she had been found in that brief time, she would have skinned or cut knees, therefore her death occurred after he dropped her off.

The truth may actually come from the Kalpoe brothers now. Where are these guys?

Jean   June 21st, 2010 1:04 pm ET

As far as van der Sloot's stories – I agree with Elizabeth in that I don't believe any of his stories as he's given them. I do believe the part that he killed Flores, just not how or why. His mind is constantly working, and I believe his story telling is all about him being the victim, what ever happened was somehow justified, how he never did anything "wrong". Now, he's saying that he was tricked into his confession? HA HA.... I'll just bet the truth is that he's getting scared of his surroundings, and he wants out. I can only hope that the Peruvian justice system isn't as easily swayed as Aruba's seems to be.

Beth   June 21st, 2010 7:38 pm ET

Beings Van der Sloot is such a pathological liar why can't we just administer truth serum to killers/criminals such as him and a few other well knowns in the news right now? Seems the criminals have more rights then the poor victims – don't forget them – they had no choice, the criminals did, they chose their fate.

joe   June 21st, 2010 8:54 pm ET

Has anyone checked to see if any women from Taiwan are missing?

SpikedLemon   July 1st, 2010 12:57 am ET

Hey Jean,
You've been doing an excellent job, in your reporting from Lima!
I was wondering, if a person, in Peru, is"guilty until proven innocent" – how VDS and his lawyer, can file all those charges about his human rights, etc. He's not in Aruba anymore. But, don't the same rules in Peru, are applied to him?
I also, think, that his mother has been doing fund raising, borrowing $$ from friends, etc.for his legal defense. And, now, VDS is offering an interview for a million dollars. I hope that no one pays for an interview with that scum!!!! No one wants to read another one of his lies, for that is what he will do.
IMO his lawyer is a sleaze bag, and just as bad as VDS. after $$$$$. Paralzing the court system, hmm, didn't think that was possible with the Peruvian justice system. Please, don't give him what he, and his lawyer want. I think his lawyer was going to quit over $$$ but, VDS mom, probably came up, with enough to have him keep the case!!!

Shads   July 1st, 2010 2:10 pm ET

This is my Opinion and I don't care what any of you insane Joran Supporters or others have to say. I hope and pray this guy gets the Death Penalty I don't know whether Peru goes to those measures but I hate this guy with passion and what he has done to these Families is a Capital Crime in my opinion. He has been allowed to travel the World and Murder people all over...God knows what he did in Taiwan or thailand...I mean FBI step up your dammm game man.
Its Disgusting to me to read or hear that Some women out there are asking to have his baby and or marry this Killer?????? He is in the Best Country for Justice to be served I promise you that.
Have a blessed day everyone!

Shads

casey   August 16th, 2010 4:45 pm ET

Guess what!! How sad and frightening it is that a prison like this is able to exist in our present world. This is torture for thousands of people with no food, constant beatings and rape, without water and probably many of the prisoners are innocent without legal representation. The system is corrupt and should be abolished. Hopefully Joran being held at this disgusting prison will bring light, truth and outrage over the inhumane treatment that goes on. Horrible. A human rights violation. And we are shocked by Nazi Germany. This is on the same low level..Shame on the world for allowing this unjust criminal behavior. This prison should be shut down and the corrupt government brought to justice.

manny296   February 26th, 2011 11:41 pm ET

Let's face it, Joran is from a family of money... This is why Joran has been given the VIP treatment in Castro Castro. Money being sent into the prison insures Joran safety from the other inmates and special protection from the correction officers.

Joran's money pays for food and girls for him and his cell mates. Joran is currently living the vida loca in Castro Castro.

If Joran would have been an American and without a money background then things would be much different. He would not have been flown first class on a private plane. He would not have a private room with special guard details.

Rumors are swirling that a special trust fund has been set up for Joran so that money can be given to the other cell mates and correction officers to insure Joran safety and well being.

Can you believe dozens of girls from United States are writing to Joran and sending him money..

carlos   February 27th, 2011 1:50 pm ET
