Animal justice dispensed in Pet Court

Posted: 04:39 PM ET

NEW YORK–We bring you all sorts of cases where people are accused of behaving badly, but what happens when animals do the same? They and their owners land in “Pet Court."

An accused cat named Tom

When a cat named Tom is accused of trespassing, destroying his neighbor's property and leaving dead animals on the lawn, his owners have to answer to Tampa, Florida, Judge Nick Nazaretian, who dispenses his own brand of “ruff” justice.

The charismatic, no-nonsense judge presides as owners passionately defend their pets. It’s the only courtroom dedicated to truth, justice and the animal way. Click here to see a clip.

truTV is going to the dogs, cats, chickens - and even a duck - on “Pet Court” all next week at 3 p.m.

This is the stupidest idea ever. wow.

yellowrose1010   July 16th, 2009 11:27 am ET

With all the other crazy courtroom shows out there, I don't doubt this one at all. Should be as funny as all the rest of the same type shows.

Ross   July 16th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

funnier.... lol

The cat COULD be spraying urine to mark his territory. If you don't have a cat "fixed" (yes, male OR female), they can and generally WILL spray urine and it IS FOUL smelling.
The owner of the cat has a moral responsibility to ensure his animal(s) aren't bothering the neighbors.
As far as digging up holes in the yard...??? I've NEVER seen any cat dig holes in a yard unless it's a dirt yard. Even then, it's not a large hole, it's simply a small divit to "go potty" in and then they'll nicely fill it back in. So, I think this woman is going overboard there.
Cats ARE generally hunters and they WILL bring their prey back to their homes. Yes, it's not pleasant and can be sad but certainly that's their instinct.

Sounds like a great show to me, Max-no worse than all those pathetic reality shows like More to Love or The Bachelor! I'll take this show over those ANY day!

You'd think money would better be spent on something important. I would be embarrased as a judge of this court. "Shame on you, you bad kitty" someone should ask him who he made mad to get stuck doing this.

What a great clip !! This Judge is doing a great service to the community, should be applauded for his time and effort !! God Bless America

Mandie   July 17th, 2009 6:33 pm ET

I've actually been in court before this judge. TRUST ME, this show will be well worth your time to watch.

lucille alleva   July 17th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

lucille alleva   July 17th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

seems lik this will be a very interesting show not only to watch but also to learn.....good job

Phyllis   July 18th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

Looks like a good show

Technogoof   July 18th, 2009 8:55 pm ET

Yea lets lock up all the cats and never let them roam the streets again...then lets watch the mouse population skyrocket...Then lets watch all the people getting sick because of the mouse crap in thier homes..Smart

Cats are the only pet that I think should be allowed to roam free. The keep the rodent population down and the little damage they do do is worth it for the work they do.

I go agree they should all be fixed tho there are far to many feral cats running around

Would love to see people tried for pet abuse and neglect, and see some real live well deserved jail time and fines for the criminal act of animal abuse.

Summer is right. Cats do not dig holes just for the fun of it. The female does it to keep other predators from following her. Males do it to bury things.
Further, cats will urinate on things and in areas to mark their territory. Since this cat is outdoors most of the time he/she feels that the entire area including the unhappy neighbor is his home and territory.
When he/she brings dead animals to the area its their way of saying thank you and here is a gift to express my graditude.
I think the show will be entertaining and hopefully teach people how to communicate with animals.

Hey, Did everybody forget about Judge Wapner and his side kick Rusty from Animal Court on Animal Planet? Great show, There is no such thing as a bad pet only BAD Owners. This is going to be great. When you see some of these owners is it any wonder that their pets act out? I mean would you want to be seen in public with them? Oh, if pets could talk!!!

MW   July 22nd, 2009 1:16 am ET

LOVE THIS!!! It is absolutely hysterical!! You can't make this stuff up! The judge is a criminal judge who volunteers his time to hear these ordinance violations- typically dog bite cases, but some get very interesting. Judge Nazaretian is awesome and anything he does would be well worth watching!

Cindy   July 22nd, 2009 11:28 am ET

The judge in this show is an animal hater. I wouldn't watch it if you paid me.

B. Thompson   July 24th, 2009 5:41 am ET

LOVE THIS JUDGE! Enjoy his humor and appreciate his prudent, careful rulings! A great program! Hope a DVD will be offered!

Finally someone is trying to get justice for the helpless animals and their irresponsible owners.
If you find this stupid, let your animal be killed by someone and see how you feel about it!

joe   August 3rd, 2009 11:52 am ET

ow a cat is being prosecuted over a few dead mice in the lawn. How could this go to court its not like the cats pulling some Texas chainsaw actoin on the neighbor.Just get a fence or an electric collar. Who are you going to prosecute next bugs bunny for eating the grass.STUPID

Joane   August 4th, 2009 3:20 pm ET

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Justice for animals. O. K.!!!! What? Did they file a brief? Complain to their council person, senator, etc.? Now, they will have their day in court, right? It is stupid. People have lost pets since the beginning of time. Egyptians mummified beloved animals. I have lost a beloved pet but though it was a sad time, we lost Prince, our long haired black and white tabby after 14 yrs, it does not compare to the loss of my dad and husband 6 yrs ago nor if I lost any of my children, grandchildren, mother, sisters, etc. If there were to be a choice, guess who would win? Me, I can't wait until 'The Tudors' returns to cable.

Molly   August 5th, 2009 11:35 am ET

This is the only courtroom where if the defendant doesn't like the verdict, he can crap on the courtroom floor. Well, maybe not the ONLY courtroom. I imagine there are some in New York City....
