O.J. Simpson jurors explain their guilty verdict

Posted: 10:51 AM ET

NEW YORK - Seven members of the jury that convicted O.J. Simpson of kindapping, armed robbery and 10 other charges have explained how they reached their verdict.

During a press conference in the same Las Vegas courtroom where the trial was held, the jurors, who seemed to be a cohesive group, said they relied mostly on audio and video recordings made before, during and after the incident. "It would have been a weak case" without the tapes...everything was based on the recordings, juror Dora Pettit said.

The jury had a problem with the credibility of the former co-defendants who testified for the prosecution. "We honestly felt we could not rely on that witness testimony," said Michelle R. Lyons, another juror. "There was not one decision we made that was based only on witness testimony."

Responding to questions about whether the group disregarded Simpson's past, jury foreman Paul Connelly said the murder trial "never came up..I don't think it was on anybody's minds. For that, I can say I'm proud of the jury." Juror Teresa Owens also said it would be "preposterous" for anyone suggest that the makeup of the jury - 11 jurors were white - hurt the defense's case.

Meantime, O.J. Simpson is being isolated from other prisoners for his own safety in a 7-foot-by-14-foot cell at the Clark County Detention Center. He faces up to life in prison and will probably be transferred to a state prison when he's sentenced on December 5th.

Attorney Yale Galanter said he will pursue an appeal to reverse the conviction, based partly of the jury selection process. Galanter made reference to the elimination of all African-Americans from the jury and the fact jurors on the panel revealed that they believed that Simpson should have been convicted of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, in the 1995 Los Angeles trial.

I am not paying 100% attention to this press conference but, I did stop when heard the jury get asked the question on what sentance Mr.Simpson should recieve? After the comment about it being up to the court for that and not the jury They were asked if he should have been spending life in prison from the trial 13 years ago. The man is the Hawiian shirt stated "That's how I felt" and the rest of the jurors all started talking to take away from that comment. Now, I am no fan of Mr. Simpson but, I do not think that man looked at this trial without his mind already made up!! I hope I am not the only one out there that noticed this.

Donna Guenther   October 6th, 2008 11:09 am ET

O.J. Simpson was found guilty on the facts from the case. It was quite apparent from the video provided. Robbery is robbery, with a gun, is when there is a gun. We teach our children that it's who you hang out with, is how your judged. An accomplis is just as guilty. They all should have been held responsible, they were all there. Wake up people, a thug is a thug, no matter how you slice it!

bebe   October 6th, 2008 11:14 am ET

As far as Im concerned if "vegas" wants justice, find out who killed Tupac Shakur....but they don't care about that..that's a black on black
crime!

debra   October 6th, 2008 11:20 am ET

wow I cannot describe my emotions!!!!
this should have happened 13 years ago. NOT now. I have watched everything on tru tv (when I work I tape). The system has raped us twice.

shawna   October 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

There is no need for understanding what went right or wrong for O J's trial the entire system and people involved had zero control over the outcome sometimes human justice in any form is trumped by the card called KARMA.

Chris   October 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

I believe OJ did comit double murder . However, the jurors in this case did not analyze this case long enough. OJ's intent did not appear to be to comit a crime. The thugs that misused there guns are the guilty ones. As for Mr. Stewart he is colateral damage this is not justice. I can not imagine the jury used much critical thinking in this case. They rushed to judgement for some reason....

pattie   October 6th, 2008 11:25 am ET

in the simpson trial....was there an option for a trial by judge as opposed to jury?...if so why did they choose that route if the defense was so concerned about bias on the behalf of the jurors?

NONI   October 6th, 2008 11:26 am ET

this is addressed to Jami Floyd...Jami get over it the jury has spoken O.J. has been found guilty on all counts. lick your wounds and move on. he's exactly where he belongs, behind bars where he can't hurt anybody else hopefully for the rest of his sorry, sad life. who's fault is it he couldn't walk the straight and narrow of life? his fault and his alone. goodbye O.J. and good ridance!

Roy   October 6th, 2008 11:28 am ET

The juice got squeezed!
Looks like the legal system worked this time.
To bad his lawer doesn't get some time aswell,in the crowbar hotel

Angelo   October 6th, 2008 11:30 am ET

Kind of tired of listening to the defense Attornies and jamie Floyd whining about poor OJ Simpson's unfair treatment. Sure there were contradictions in testimony, shady characters, etc. but the bottom line is this:

1. There were guns in that hotel room.

2. People were held against their will.

3. Property was taken (stolen) from the room even though some of it, may have belonged to OJ.

All this whining is sad. The man is guilty. Has nothing to do with his acquital years ago. As to the shady charcters, they are OJ's buddies. What does it say about his character?

Greg   October 6th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Why is the defense crowd whinning and complaining about their own system of justice. If they had no confidence in a fair jury trial then why didn't they go with a court trial instead? After all, judges, your peers, are so much smarter and capable of examining evidence and applying the law. OJ would have certainly gotten a fair trial then, right?

PAT   October 6th, 2008 11:36 am ET

Why is everyone on IN SESSION so down on this VERDICT? Yale feels the jury was not fairly picked didnt he have a hand in picking this jury? This Verdict had nothing to do with OJ;s past. Also Jamie Floyd every black person is not always innocent as you like to think.

Beverly Martin   October 6th, 2008 11:36 am ET

I don't agree on the verdict about O. J. I feel and hope they can get a new trail.

Sandie   October 6th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Hi Jamie, I do not think most people did not know that it had been 13 years and so on with OJ and the deaths of 1994. It is not like we are hanging on everything OJ has been doing for the past 13 years. I have a life and it does not include OJ. I felt that in 1995 they did not prove their case and I do fell they did now. The law is the law. It did not matter if the property was his or not. If you go in a room and keep anyone from leaving, that is kidnapping. If you take property (yours or not yours) away from someone else by force, with or without a gun, then that is robbery. Why do we have laws if we are not going to inforce them? He should do like anyone else in this country, fo to the police and get them to get your property. He did not want that because he would have to give it to the Goldmens. Not because it killed their son or not, but because it was what came (right or wrong)out of the court all those years ago. The law is the law. They had no doubt. He was guilty of this. He even said so on some of the tapes.

Carlos   October 6th, 2008 11:40 am ET

These white jurors look glad they convicted O.J. they seemed to be just as happy as Goldman. The Las Vegas P.D. The D. A are all acting like they just got Bin Laden. Would white America would be just as angry if Nicole would had been black? 13? Everyone in Vegas knows what that means. They wanted to send O.J. the message your "luck" ran out.

shirley worth   October 6th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Hey! Its true, "what happens in Vagas" really does stay in Vagas. O.J.
happened and O.J. is staying.

Kathie, Ontario. Canada   October 6th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Let me get this straight. They relied on tapes you could
hardly understand, using aids in the jury box to listen
to them that were proven to be full of omissions and erros.
Tapes that they relied on the prosecution on who was saying
what.
Tapes which on none where OJ said bring guns.
Tapes where it was left out in their aids in the jury box
where OJ said over and over I only want them to tell the truth.
And, they got through these hours and hours of garbled,
muffled hard to understand tapes in just 12 hours.
Plus, they want us to believe they told the bailiff to not
disturb them they didn't want to stop deliberating and they
just happened to come to a verdict that could be announced on
the anniversary of the acquittal.
I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.

David   October 6th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Ok, so I have no love loss for OJ. It may even be possible that he was guilty 13 years ago. My problem here is that this is not 13 years ago and I don't think the system worked this time.

BTW. You don't have to discuss something in a room to know what people are thinking.

Mary Hoover   October 6th, 2008 11:45 am ET

I DO NOT FEEL ONE BIT OF REMORSE FOR OJ SIMPSON. HE IS GUILTY OF SO MANY CRIMES (ESPECIALLY NICOLE BROWN AND RON GOLDMAN – THEY MUST BE DANCING AND SMILING IN HEAVEN) THAT ONE OF THEM WAS BOUND TO CATCH UP WITH HIM – AND THIS STUPID BREAKING INTO A HOTEL ROOM TO GET HIS "STUFF" CAUGHT HIM!!!
THERE IS AN OLD SAYING, "WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND." AND SO IT IS.

John   October 6th, 2008 11:46 am ET

I am disturbed by the shows bias in the Simpson trial. The lawyers on the show appear to beleive that no jury could reach a "fair" decision unless it it not guilty. They are branded as biased or racist.
Jury duty is difficult. The people involved are well aware that hey are deciding the fate of another human being. It is not a game to them. I am appalled that you would accuse them (without proof) of being anything but fair.
They are charged with deciding the case, based on the charge(s), law and evidence presented.
Your slant can subject them to retrabution from some zelot and does effect the entire system.

Marcia   October 6th, 2008 11:46 am ET

How can Yale feel so bad for OJ when I saw the famlies of two people13years ago sobbing ,the blood that was horrific with that in mind he did have the Juryof his liking ,and it made the dream team so happy. Won that one! Then here he was found guilty so now we have the appeals being formed.I would wonder if the lawyers are doing the representing of him for getting a pat on the back .Or just that they believe HIM??That man has thumbed his nose at the law for all these years thinking he can get away with anything he has lived well with money stored away over seas and had those items taken to hide till he would get it all back was very clear to a mereTV person. After the civic trial it was made very clear GUILTY....

Renee   October 6th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Is this the OJ Simpson fan club or the Best Defense? I am sure this will not make it on air since it is not in OJ's best interest. The man conspired and acted on taking armed men into the room and in his own words "DO NOT LET ANYONE LEAVE THE ROOM!" Maybe if you clarify the definition of kidnapping and conspiracy I might understand a little better.

Gayann   October 6th, 2008 11:49 am ET

I think all of this could have been avoided if OJ Simpson would stop trying to be in the spotlight and take a 'low profile' lifestyle seeings how he literally got away with murder 13 years ago. Since then, he's been in a court twice, counting this time. If it were me, after the murder trial, I'd be lying low, so as not to draw attention to myself.

lynn from buffalo,ny   October 6th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Yes i do feel that the verdict was correct. Due to the fact that he knew what he was doing at the time and because of his cockieness and arrogance he thought he would get away with it., and now they (his attorneys) are going to try everything to get him out of it. What happened 13 years ago happened and there is nothing that can be done now, but again his arrogance got him where he is today. Best of luck in prison O.J. your going to need it and no special treatment should be given. I do feel sorry for his children having to deal with this man, what an embarrasement. Thank you to the jury for doing what they had to do.

gwen   October 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

It seems by Navada law the conviction is correct. Although I think if OJ took the stand the jury may have voted different.

Ezell Brown   October 6th, 2008 11:56 am ET

The O.J. Simpson verdict was a joke. This case should have never went to trial. Everyone in the room knew each other. The persons that committed the crimes was set free by the prosecutors.
What is going on with our justic system.
The Jury Formen on the O. J. Simpson trial was lying his tail off doing the press conference.

Kathie, Ontario. Canada   October 6th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

How telling is it about the level that these prosecutors will sink to so they can get
a conviction?
They would only give CJ Stewart a plea
deal if he would say that Tom Scotto wanted
to hire a hit man and get rid of Walter Alexander.
The fact that CJ didn't take this deal to save
his life tells me one thing. The statement
wasn't true, so not only to save his life he
wouldn't lie for them.
Could it be anymore apparent the prosecution
didin't care whether the things their flippers
said were true or not , as long as they said
it.

Robert Griffith   October 6th, 2008 12:04 pm ET

I belive Mr. Galanteris a self centered man, he was more concerned makeing the In session highlight, and when he was defeated, he was the first to point fingers. OJ needs a new atterney

karen wy.   October 6th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

What's with your statement "we're going to change your mind". Everyone has a opinion, what makes yours the right one!!! THE ONLY ONES THAT MATTER IS THE JURORS. This is what they were CHOSEN to do. On that note I believe they got it right. I have a lot of respect for the jurors they were damed no matter what !!! THEY ARE GOING TO BE HATED BY SOME AND LOVED BY OTHERS..

j. renee   October 6th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

The jury did what they were ask to do...sit and listen to the evidence and get a verdict.

Yale Galanter is crying foul, but, WHY DID'NT OJ GET ON THE STAND , LOOK THE JURY IN THE EYE, AND TELL HIS SIDE OF THE STORY?

You did the crime OJ, now you do the time.

Lisa, Ohio   October 6th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

I can not believe Jamie is turning this into a racial issue with this jury has she not seen what is going on in this country we are getting ready for an election that we are about to vote in a black man to our white house my GOD turn the record over already it is old.Jamie I like you but you need to SEE what is going on in this country before you throw statements out there like that anymore. He was convicted that is it get over it and move on to the next trial.

Cheri   October 6th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

People are talking about what will happen to O.J. behind prison walls.

I think the more interesting story will be what happens to Tom Riccio now that the jury has said that they relied on HIS tapes to convict Simpson.

Riccio is such a worm, I wonder how he'll get his way out of this one.

jim obrien   October 6th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

this just un fair, he never got a fair trial, this was set from the start. i can't belive this happen in america. jim obrien- plymouth, in

Katherine Thibeau-Johns   October 6th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Ms. Floyd,,,Mr. Simpson was acquitted 13 years ago, and most Americans may have an opinion of that. But does this give Mr. Simpson the right to do anything he can just because of his past, and you feel he can't get a fair trial.

Gayann   October 6th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Again, I say if Simpson's lawyers are so sure that the jurors found him quilty because of the murder trial 13 years ago, why don't they coach Simpson on "staying out of the spotlight". Stay out of trouble and don't give the public reason to judge him on prior instince's.

Nancy Forst   October 6th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

If someone had put a gun in my face and told me that I could not leave ...I would feel that I was being detained without my permission.
Also, "When you lie down with dogs, you will get up with flees."
Maybe the lights going out in the courtroom was a sign from those who are no longer with us as to they, at last, have had the last word.

Sunni   October 6th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

If OJ Simpson thought the memorabilia in that hotel room belonged to him and had been stolen, why did he not call the police? I'll tell you why. The STUFF did not belong to him and he knew it. It belongs to the Goldmans'. He has been hiding it from the Goldmans' for years. He has finally got the justice he deserves.. Hopefully for the rest of his life. The sympathy being given to OJ's family is not only pathetic, but sickening....

Lauri W   October 6th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Of course the "murder trial" had something to do with the outcome of this case. Even one of the jurors (the female with dark hair) during their press conference, stated "we didn't even consider what HE DID 13 years ago". HELLO! What "HE DID"??? I am pretty sure he was aquitted of that!

bill behrens   October 6th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Not an oj fan but I wonder how many other robberies have 12 charges piled on as in the oj trial. I would like to see how many 7-11 robberies with a weapon and at least two accomplices had 12 charges like these . Seems that many robberies could always have kidnaping, conspiracy etc included. Wonder if proscecutor Rodgers in Las Vegas could enlighnten us to this information.

Janice   October 6th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

The only thing that I have to say is that EVERY single comment that is being made now by the media and the public in regards to the trial "this is a shock" "How could this happen" "What has happen to our legal system" "There is no way in that short period of time that they (jurors)could go over ALL the evidence" etc. Well, that is the exact same comments that were said 13yrs ago.

Gallanter said he knew from the beginning that he wouldn't get a fair trial.

The system didn't do that to O.J.

O.J. did it to himself.

There is no way I could have sat on that jury. I do believe what goes around comes around.
How in the heck are we supposed to think differently, especially after HE wrote that book. He did it to himself!

Kathie, Ontario. Canada   October 6th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Sunni : They did go to the LA Police, the FBI and the LV police all said they weren't interested in helping.
Now for all you Goldman fans out there , I hope your sitting down .
The Goldman's weren't the only ones to win that civil verdict. The
estate of Nicole Brown Simpson were part of that verdict. Her
children wiht OJ are the heirs.
The family pictures and plaques and other things OJ went to the
hotel room to retrieve , he said he wanted to give his heirs. That
would be those two kids included. Those kids have more right
to that particular stuff than the Goldmans. Why do you feel the
Goldman's should get first dibs on everything?

EDDIE GA.   October 6th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Tim Riccio testified that he went to the L.A.P.D. the L.V.P.D. and the FBI
and no one was interested. What was O.J. to do? Also, this "stuff " was on the auction block. that was the only way get his Stolen family stuff back. His stuff is not valuable to me but clearly was to him. The authorities were not going to do anything.

Anita   October 6th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Jami,Jami,Jami. Are you telling Amercia that if there were more African Americans on the jury, that he would have been found not guilty? Even if they knew he was. As far as your closing words, "only a fool" can't see this is payback. It's called Justice!

Mike Dunn   October 6th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

The fact that the most guilty men got sweet deals tells me all I need to know about the justice system in Vegas. This case was most definitely designed to get Mr Simpson. Shame on the Las Vegas
police and Da's office.

Teri   October 6th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

He is heard on tape, he had a small gang there and there was a crime commited, if he wanted his stuff back then he should have went alone, and took the police with him.or sue the poeple who had his stuff. but NO he choose to do it a differant way ,which was the wrong way, Simpson you also really need to stop playing this race thing too. You did the crime, your other 4 friends are guilty to that is why they took plea deals., all of you was in that hotel room, and the tape proves it.

lorraine of california   October 6th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

When the jury was being selected, some jurors stated that they felt he was guilty in dbl murder case. Both the prosecution and the "defense" had the ability to select jurors more favorable to their side. when asked if they could put that aside and judge this case on it's own evidence, they agreed. They were then selected as jurors. Now they are being criticized for the way they did their civic duty. Yale Galanter is all over the media...trying to sway public opinion. He is insulting the jury...."their body language shows that they lied in their verdict!". Perhaps, Mr. Galanter, they are not used to having cameras and media reporters in their face like you are! Perhaps they are intimidated. And folks...it is not "an all white jury". One juror is hispanic. My understanding is that a jury of your peers, does not mean a jury comprised of people of your own ethnic background. If you are a human being....a jury of your peers is a jury comprised of other human beings.....not animals or alien beings from another planet.

Joan   October 6th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

I have come to the conclusion that some people would declare OJs innocence even if they were standing beside him while he was committing the crime. I do believe he was guilty 13 years ago and his own words on tape proves him guilty this time. But I also believe a life sentence in THIS case is extreme. He actually did this to himself by constantly thumbing his nose at the law, surrounding himself with low life types and doing questionable things. I am not so sure that this was about retrieving "his stuff" or playing his macho, untouchable role for his "friends". Either way, he is guilty and the jurors did their job. GOD BLESS THEM.

Kelvin   October 6th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

There is no way in the world someone could honestly say they had no bais concerning O.J. Simpson and the murder trial 13 years ago. This is why blacks were not allowed on this jury and this is why Simpson is now sitting behind bars. If crooks can send a person to jail for the rest of their lives, this is a sad commentary. As the cops in this case said early on, they've got him now. Evidence be damned.

lynn   October 6th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

This is a true definition of Karma!

Carla   October 6th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

The law is the law. Guilty is guilty. He broke the law and he is guilty!!! If he was any other ordinary person and not O.J., no one would give a second thought to him being found guilty... and no one would question the decision of his peers. Get over it, he is guilty and getting what he deserves for the crime(s) he committed. Justice served!!!!!

Linda   October 6th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

The only reason why "The Glove" did'nt fit the first time is because it was put in a plastic bag and over time it shrunk. You could even see O. J. himself surprised they did'nt fit. This time everything fits. Justice has finally been served!

robin   October 6th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

sorry to say his past has caught up with ,POOR oj .time is now for Nicole and ron . FAME NO LONGER .BYE OJ TIME TO SERVE.

Carlos   October 6th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

"Don't let anyone out of the room" is not kidnapping, Its false arrest at best. Retrieving your property is not a crime, carrying a gun is not a crime, repo men do it all the time. But in America if a black man is suspected to have killed a white woman, even if he is found not guilty, we hold a grudge and make sure we send him to prison for life even if it takes 12 yrs. It is no surprise that in this country the majority of inmates are black and the majority of jurors are white. Because "they must be guilty of something" who cares about evidence.

janet smith   October 6th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

it was a set up from the start with the tapes. the judge was not fair with the defense team. should have been two seperate trials. what a waste of tax dollars.everyone should have been tried or all should have been allowed to plead out. what a bunch of seedy carectures
were used how could the jury convect anyone even o. j. with these
peoples testimoney

Thomas   October 6th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

I don't think that Simpson chose to be in the spotlight. Thomas Riccio went to the police and the FBI to help in seeing that Simpson's stolen merchandise would be returned to him. Neither the police nor the FBI wanted to intervene, after Riccio told them the "victim" was Simpson.

Mayge folks that did not watch the entire trial should refrain from making comments?

Shayleen   October 6th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

If the jurors couldn't rely on the witnesses testimony, how could they rely on anything that was on the tapes provided by the witnesses. The tapes could have been doctored.

Rick   October 6th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

So OJ,s stuff was stolen.Did OJ report his stuff was stolen to the Police in Calif?Probably not.OJ was married to a white women,He has a white women living with him before his conviction. What does it matter if the jury was all white. He has whites in his home life.No discrimanation there. His attornies are white.
So if he has not reported his stuff stolen ,He and all his buddies commited all the crimes regardless if it was stolen stuff or not.
Oj made his bunk now he can sleep in it.GUILTY as Charged.
Bye Bye OJ

Ken Harada   October 6th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

I dont understand Lena Jacksons comments about people who disagree with the verdict. What about we who agree with the verdict. I know cnn is liberal but what I dont get is how else can the jury not find him guikty. Did he not go in the room with armed men to take what ever he said what was his. Is this not a crime. Why the spin. He is guilty as sin. Why all the discussion one sided. I know lawyers see every thing differently from nomal people but what is is. My only comment is how stipid can OJ be. Does he think he is above the law like many so called super stars that he can do what ever he wants and not pay the price. You do the crime you do the time. Why not call the cops on these guys he said stole his stuff. Get a life. Silent majority

lloyd kline   October 6th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

scotto is a made man. we all know what that means. he is the guy (made) that you o.j. lovers are going to believe? good luck when you or yours need help.

Denia   October 6th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Appeal! Appeal! Appeal! The justice system has failed AGAIN! Everyone is going on and on about O.J. but what about the co-defendant Mr. C.J. Stewart. He has been given such a horrible deal. The jurors said and I quote " we listend to the tapes over witnesses". Well if that is the case how did they come up with the exact 12 counts for C.J. and O.J.. You could not hear Mr. Stewart on the tape recordings during testimony. This man Mr. Stewart should be granted a appeal! What was the jury thinking?

M Re   October 6th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

The first time I felt that JUSTICE had finally been done. This character always thought he was better than the law and other decent citizens.

lloyd kline   October 6th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

jami, you just called everyone who does't agree with you a fool. i will just leave it at that.

Susan   October 6th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Hi Jamie,

My mom has been watching you for a long time now. She said you ALWAYS say "The System Works"! Well the system has worked in regards to OJ Simpson! My mom says "GET OVER IT"!

Susan

Kathie, Ontario. Canada   October 6th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

The jury said they based their verdict solely on the tapes and none
of the tainted testimony.
They based their verdict on tapes that the prosecution had no
sufficient chain of custody for. They based their verdict on tapes
that prosecution's own experts said they could not vouch their
trustworthiness. They based their verdict on tapes the prosecution's
own EXPERT witnessess said had AT LEAST TWO DELETIONS
on them.
Seems to me the tapes were just as tainted as the witness
testimony they didn't feel they could rely on .

CBeck   October 6th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

I am no fan of OJ Simpson but how can any intelligent citizen find a defendent guilty of a crime to which there isn't one credible witness? What kinds of idiots sit on juries these days, anyway?

John J.   October 6th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Based on the evidence, OJ and CJ are guilty. Defense attorney's should have reviewed the strategy of OJ's "Dream Team" of lawyers for his 1995 murder trial. Couldn't they hire a forensic type to argue Riccio's tapes were contaminated? Were investigator backgrounds checked to see if the n-word was used in the past. Anybody working on a movie or book deal? All it takes is one juror hold out to get a mistrial. Just curious.. I wouldn't mind having these lawyers in a crunch. Cause..."if it don't fit ...you must acquit."

Dawn   October 6th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

This poor jury would have been wrong no matter what they decided. Instead of letting the evidence speak for itself (OJ deciding to take the property and not letting anyone leave the room) everyone wants to complain that they got him because he's black and got away with murder in '95. If they had let him go again, there would have been complaints that he was let go because he is O.J. and famous. Unfortunately, the race card will always be played anytime the verdict doesn't go their way and they are allowed to do it. That is what keeps the predjudice going. Just look at people for who and what they are–not what color they are or how rich or famous they are. It is sad that most of the population would never have gotten the representation that he has had because most of us don't have the resources that he has. Money does have a way of buying people out of just about anything alot of times. This time it didn't work.

Larry Dean   October 6th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

If he could never get a fair jury how did he get aquitted in florida for road rage ? He didnt want the judge deciding it because he knew he was guilty he was hoping to get some fans on the jury to get them to hang. Face it his luck ran out and he could never get what he deserves because there is thirteen years that cant be taken back from him ,he should really count his blessings and be gratefull he got to be with his kids these last thirteen years. I wonder what he says to them when or if they ever ask why he killed their mother.
HANG HIM !!!

Donald Ragan   October 6th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Mr. Stewart should not have been charged with the same as Mr. Simpson. It is so obvious an overkill for Mr.Stewart. He shoujld be put on probation and let him live on as a good citizen

Miriam   October 6th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Are the members of the jury lying??????? they took an oath to hear all of the evidence and come to a decision based on facts. Is this not the facts of this jury. Why did his attorneys not make sure that there were biracial and african americans on the jury? His attorneys had this choice did they not? Where is the african americans that were potential jurors? Where did they go?

Barbara   October 6th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

"Payback Time"..... What a justice system we have, OJ will finally get what so many think he has coming to him. How pathetic the court system has become to sentence a man to life in prison for "payback " from a crime he was found not guilty of so many years ago..... oops my mystake on the trumped up charges which appear to have been set up from the start. There is nothing like American Justice!!! Lets see what they give the people who caused the billion dollar money crisis in this country........

nancy p   October 6th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

personally i think the goldmans should not get anything,, for they let this go on long enough,, they make themselves look desperate for money,,, and you cannot bring ron back with money,,, years ago ron fred and kim,, they were all estranged for many years,, it was brought out in the 95 trial,,this jury knew what had happened 13 years ago,, and had their mind made up,, this was not a kidnapping ,, for a kidnapping is when someone takes you by force physically ,, ties you up,, blindfolds you, then makes a call for ransom,, this was not the case, nor a robbery,, you dont hear oj on any tapes saying ,, hey bring some heat and look menacing,,,, mcclinton and alexander took it upon themselves to bring the guns,, and oj i believe never saw these guns, all these so called witnesses for the states all have shady pasts , and this judge purely pro- prosecutor,,,, and pro-DA.. how one sided could she be????? i hope oj simpson and cj stewart get a retrial or a mistrial or over turned verdicts,,,,, and here we have the hippie from the sixties runnin around with his crazy hairdos, , phil spector is out and oj is sittin in jail,, dont make sense,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

nancy p   October 6th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

and poor cj stewart, he was just there for a friends wedding,, look what happened to him,he should get another trial or his verdict overturned,,, so sad,,, very very sad,, this whole situation

sundra   October 6th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

the jury said it was about the tapes riccio is the one that called oj to tell him about the stuff that was stolen it was riccio that told the two men to wait in his room he set this up then you have the jury saying that from their opinion he should of done time 13 years ago did they hear when walter wanted 50,000.00 from oj or his friend did they hear the cops say their going to get oj did they hear when oj said i want only my stuff did they hear oj tell walter to give the cell phone back did they hear the so call victims say mike took it did they hear when the so call victims said they can make alot of money on this the men with the guns walk this case is about pay back to oj from the other case did they hear when walter said he can go any way if he get money did they hear when mc said in the hearing that walter seen him with his gun then walter said to mc give me one to this judge was not fair at all she went with the da on everthing the da wanted only oj during the case they was not saying alot about cj because they wanted oj i hope in pray that oj &cj get a new trail everyone walk free but oj &cj they get life this judge sat there and said that the da could not bring in the goldmans but then she let them do it at the end in closing come on she wanted oj in jail

Bill   October 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

A lot of people critique this trial claiming that OJ could not get a fair trial because of the California incident. Even the defense attorneys bring this up asking how their client can a fair trial. What is the alternative? We just let someone go because of a controversial past? I was always told, don't bring me a problem unless you have a suggestion on how to fix it. The Defense attorneys did have a way, they could have asked for a trial by Court (Judge).

Shayleen   October 7th, 2008 12:23 am ET

THE BALD JURY FOREMAN WAS TOO STRANGE!!!! SMACKING HIS MOUTH AROUND, CHEWING GUM, AND MOVING HIS BODY CRAZY LIKE, WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HIM?

Lizbeth   October 7th, 2008 12:44 am ET

I commend the jury for their verdict – no matter what the verdict. If they would have found OJ not guilty, Jami would be congratulating the jury on being her hero. OJ's defense would be crowing and high-fiving at their successful ruse.

It is wrong to bring up racism in regard to this trial. Race played absolutely no role in this trial and that is a fact that everyone knows.

The whining from the defense side is beyond silly. Every defense attorney after every trial always, always, always, claims there are grounds for appeal and they will fight, they huff and they puff and Jami is always on their side no matter the truth because the truth only matters when it benefits the defendant and otherwise the truth be damned.

Mike   October 7th, 2008 12:57 am ET

When you enter the conspiracy you enter the crimes.
C.J. Stewart entered the conspiracy, thus he entered the crimes.

Ron   October 7th, 2008 11:31 am ET

How a jury can sit and listen to all the lies by unreliable witnesses and a tape that was misrepresented as to who said what and then convict OJ is beyond understanding. The justice system does not always deal out justice, especially when a person is presumed guilty before being proven innocent.

Stephan   October 7th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Every moment of this life we make choices, Mr. Simpson included. He made a chioce and now must live that choice, just as he lived choices 13 years ago. It boils down to Karmic Debt and there is no escaping it as it is the Law of the Universe and no one is immune.

karen   October 7th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

So will the Goldmans get the money for the stuff he wanted back. For me this had nothing to do with the murder case, this had to do with the civil case, where as the Goldman's are due any monies of OJ's. If we could just get OJ to give them some money to take care of there finances after this whole fiasco. Civil court I guess does not count eh?

Jackie   October 7th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

I listened to Yale Galanter yesterday on Court TV. He may be an excellent lawyer but he certainly didn't help OJ by constantly trying to tell the Judge how things needed to be stated. No wonder she finally had enough of his know it all attitude and told him to Sit Down.

Clint   October 7th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

If this was a fair and legit trial then why isn't riccio behind bars?

He was the mastermind of the whole thing. He orchestrated the hotel meeting told OJ about the men having his stuff and set-up OJ and his security guards to come up to the room and then he let them all in there was no forced entry into the hotel room.

If I were to plan a bank robbery and then round up for guys to go with me and do it ... only to then get caught red-handed, I am pretty sure I would not be able to plea my way out of jail while the rest of the guys spend the rest of their lives in jail.

TOTAL BS case, a jury of his peers (9 women, 11 whites) uh ..... YEAH

nancy p   October 7th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

i hope the goldmans dont recieve anything,,, they seem desperate for money,,,the browns have let this go,,, and let nicole rest in peace,, i say to fred and kim goldman,,,, let this go,,,,,,,,,,,, money wont bring ron back,,,, and to me,, thats all the goldmans want,, is money,,,,,, these verdicts were totally unfair,, the audio tapes were garbled,, i couldnt tell who was saying what,, and for the witnesses to walk free,, when some of them have shady pasts,,, unbelievable,,,, no one in that room wore a halo,,, even oj,, and im on his side,, and cj stewarts side,, oh goodness this poor man,,,in the wrong place at the wrong time,,,and ive said this once before,, phil spector is walkin around in his mansion and oj simpson and cj stewart sits in jail ,, and robert blake is free as well ,,,,, makes you think dont it

Lizbeth   October 7th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Even though it was obvious that OJ committed a stupid crime, I thought OJ would get away with another crime as he usually does.

Oh yes, we know the defense is strutting, huffing and puffing that they will fight this (just as every defense says each and every time).

As they know, the audio tapes were planted, the cops were racist and used the N word years ago to an author, the gun would not fit into OJ's story, so you must acquit, the lab work was sloppy, the Judge was prejudiced against them, and OJ was framed as always. Soooo of course in Jami's and OJ's world he should have been acquited, as usual.

sundra   October 8th, 2008 8:19 am ET

this judge told mr.galanter to sit down because he was telling the truthand because he was OJ lawyer and she want OJ in jail she was not fair and she wants to put oj away for life oj didnot have a gun .the men that did walks the DA lied about alot of things this was payback from the judge,da and the jury

Simonne   October 8th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

I can understand why they would depend on the tapes, I probably would have to. He was guilty 13 yrs ago but when I was a juror, I did not want to send someone to prison if they were innocent so I didn't take it lightly. I would have been the same with OJ. I didn't watch the trial because this whole thing with OJ is boring.

Sharon   October 8th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

I believe the Jury got it right on baby! Bout time OJ pays for some of his sins. He got away with a lot over the past 13 years, not to mention the murders. He is a thug, and gangster at heart. He would scream to the day he dies that anything going against the JUICE would be unfair, even if caught red-handed, on tape, on audio, eye witnesses up the ying yang. He just did one too many crimes. Now he gots to pay. And Jamie Lloyd, quit your doggone crying for Pete's sake. You are the biased one. Before any of the witnesses got done, you were crying "poor OJ". Mr. Fromong, had mixed feelings, but told the truth. He lost a "friend" or so he thought. But he testified as did Riccio and others. You have got to accept the truth same as others who think this thug is anything else but GUILTY as charged. Justice has prevailed!

Sharon   October 8th, 2008 4:58 pm ET

Furthermore, OJ was aware of who his buddies were and what they were capable of, he was not unaware of the guns. When you use a gun and take things from others and hold them against their will, those are LAWS THAT HAVE BEEN BROKEN. OJ is guilty of each and every one of them. Doesn't matter who held the guns. He was with them, that is guilty by association. If joe blow was on trial he would be found guilty. OJ is not a star. He is not special. He is not above the law, although he was 13 years ago. I think it is KARMA, 13 years to the day, reverse decisions. Wow, doesn't get any more Karmic than that. What goes around, comes around OJ. Take your Juice and swallow it. Too bad it doesn't have some arsenic in it as well. Personally, I think the guy should fry or hang. But, sit behind bars and think about ALL the wrongs you have done, beginning with battering Nicole, etc., etc., etc. and now you must repent for ALL your sins. You are going to prison for EVERYTHING you ever did wrong to any human being on this Earth. Like it or lump it. You just can't keep breaking laws, violating others' rights, throwing your weight around, and harrassing people and get away with it forever. It has to catch up to you some time. I am glad the Goldmans are happy too. Perhaps this is some sweet justice for them as well. OJ hid his belongings to begin with to avoid the Civil Judgment against him. Tried to keep money from the Goldmans and Browns. Let us not forget that. He is a lawbreaker any way you slice it or dice it!! It's over OJ. Sit and rot for the rest of your life. Be glad you at least have your life, sad and pathetic though it may be. Even your own children are ashamed of you, and don't think that Sydney and Justin aren't aware of ALL your sins. Jami if you feel so sorry for OJ, then go to prison and sit there and hold his hand or something and tell him it is ok. Get over it. You are very biased against whites. You make that very clear. The jury got it right this time. They judged him for what he did in Las Vegas and nothing else. Everyone had a hand in choosing this jury. If they had complaints, they should have made them known at the proper time. Now, just because the verdict did not go your way, quit crying over spilled milk. Perhaps people in Florida, California, Nevada at least will not suffer from the antics and cruelty of one OJ Simpson, no longer thug at large, but caught, tried, judged and convicted. Justice has worked this time. Let it rest. There are more fish to fry out there folks. OJ saga should end right here and now. Send him off and forget him. He can't touch anyone ever again. Hooray!!!
Be thankful these 12 people had the cahoonies to say what was right and found the guilty parties guilty as charged! They should be praised and honored.

Duane   October 8th, 2008 5:21 pm ET

This outcome is as surprising as Clay Aiken announcing he's gay...not at all a surprise.

The true motive of the police, the DA, and the jury was to correct what they feel is an injustice 13 years ago. And, does anyone REALLY think that OJ being found guilty on the anniversary of the not-guilty verdict years ago is simply a coincidence? Yeah, right.

Spider   October 9th, 2008 10:30 am ET

Let's all look at this verdict from the bright side.

Hopefully, O.J. will spend at least the next 13 years in jail. That will allow all the O.J. fans that time to believe he is innocent, just like those of us who believed he was guilty in 1995 had our time.

But, during these next 13 years he's not out showing everyone how arrogant and law abusing he is.

Shayleen   October 9th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

I WONDER WHY OJ'S GIRLFRIEND WASN'T IN THE COURTROOM? THEY PROBALLY THOUGHT IT WOULD REMIND THE JURORS OF NICOLE!

Mamie M   October 14th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

WHAT'S TO EXPLAIN?

Vaughn   October 15th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

It amazes me how everyone talks about how guilty O.J. is.WHERE IS YOUR PROOF?The court ,the jury,or prosecutors didn`t prove it so why don`t one of the talkers prove it before you blabber. The recent case was so bogus . The only reason he was found guilty is because the judge saw to it that way. With the statement the cops made about getting him in vegas , the judge didn`t want the cops or the prosecutors to look stupid.I hope he wins at the court of appeals. I`m not saying O.J. is an angel, but it just burns me up when people talk trash about someone and they really don`t have facts to back it up!!!!

lenny   October 23rd, 2008 12:05 pm ET

OJ will go down in history (or at least in my book), as one of the dumbest human beings to grace the face of the earth. The guy who started this tragic event, sold the video to a media company. So the whole entire drama was a setup. How stupid could OJ be, to not think in hindsight of the possible repercussions this action could have. He's under a spotlight 24-7. This is a guy who believes a he's a little bit bigger than what he actually is. I really believe OJ needs mental counseling. He should have confided with family members, before embarking on his desperate bid to get back his items. I don't feel sorry for him at all. He gave them another bite of the apple, and they ate the whole damn thing!

Jewel   October 25th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Personally, I felt offended for the simple fact that the defense is trying to say that it was an unfair trial because there were no black jurors. first of all, I'm a black female and I believe that oj commiteed double murder. I do think that he finally got his just deserts. He went into that hotel room fully aware of what was going down. If he was up to no good, he would've called the police and had them recover his so called "stolen property". he got what he deserved and that's my final word.

John Lennon   November 7th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Jewel, i`m not black but this trial was a joke !! You have a judge that obviously can`t stand Yale and Gabe and might as well have put handcuffs on them and duck tape on their mouths cause she doesn`t want to hear them !!!! You can`t prove that O.J. comitted the murders, the court didn`t,the jury didn`t either so quit speculating!!! Now they have proof that the jury forman was fired for making racial slurs on the job. Do you think thats fair? Look in the mirror and say ' IF I WERE IN TROUBLE FOR ANY REASON, WOULD I LIKE TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS? I would like you to answer that.

peacefreak   December 5th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

too add to that; the clowns that had oj simpsons stuff begin with should go to jail for possession of stolen property. the whole situation is a joke and nobody is in the right here. NOBODY! i would but the whole lot of them in jail including the goldmans. learn how to forgive ITS YOUR LESSON! DUH~!
