Closing arguments follow courtroom fireworks

Posted: 12:36 PM ET

NEW YORK - The fate of ex-football great O.J. Simpson will soon be in the hands of a Las Vegas jury. Closing arguments take place today in the armed robbery and kidnapping case.

If convicted, Simpson could face the rest of his life behind bars.
On Wednesday, legal fireworks threatened a complete eleventh-hour derailment of the high-profile case. Judge Jackie Glass rejected motions for a mistrial concerning questionable testimony from the last prosecution witness, police detective Andy Caldwell. The testimony prompted Judge Glass to fume, "I'm surprised you haven't seen my head spin and fire come out of my mouth at this point in this trial."

The judge and defense attorneys thought Caldwell said that Thomas Scotto, the one and only star witness testifying for Simpson, had been thrown out of a premliminary hearing for "tampering with a witness." That did not happen. It turned out that Caldwell was referring to "Mrs. Scotto," not Scotto himself.

Scotto, a close friend of Simpson's, testified earlier on Wednesday that two key prosecution witnesses tried to extort him for $50,000. After the incident, Scotto claims that Simpson's former co-defendants, Clarence Stewart and Walter Alexander, demanded the money, saying, "This thing went bad and O.J. got them involved in this, and he better call them." Scotto told jurors that McClinton also said, "You don't know me that well...I'll shoot everyone up."

Stay tuned to In Session for live coverage of closing arguments.

The Vegas police showed nothing but indifference when Scotto sent them the tape of Alexander trying to extort money from him.
He said he was told three or four times that the cops would send someone out to talk to him about this extortion attempt and that
is when he intended to tell them about the backyard altercation.
Cops didn’t want to hear anything bbad about their star witnesses..
they wanted to bury this tape.
I can understand Scotto going back out to the backyard the second time with Alexander and McClinton. He said he thought they had calmed or hoped to calm them down.. Not hard to understand that he didn’t want these thugs causing a scene at his prewedding party and upsetting his finance and her family. What’s wrong with trying to
reason with them about their threats?

I would like to know why Mr. Gallanter THROUGHOUT the trial, on numerous occasions gets away with bullying his way through the prosecution counsel objecting, then never waiting for the Judge to rule on the objection & then many times over just corrects himself & moves on or just keeps speaking as if he's above any courtroom authority?? This conduct from Mr. Gallanter has been very off-putting and I've been very surprised with how hard-lined and no non-sense Judge Glass is that she's allowed his arrogant behavior?

Can someone please explain this to me?

Kerri   October 2nd, 2008 1:26 pm ET

The one thing that I find odd is that with all these "taped recordings", hours upon hours. You NEVER actually hear OJ Simpson speaking about or actually saying anything about BRINGING GUNS. To me this is so telling. You would think that with these recordings you would hear OJ speaking about bringing guns. The prosecution makes a big deal of all of these recording but never, ever do you hear him (OJ) saying the words.

THAT is REASONABLE DOUBT.

Michael D. Hemphill   October 2nd, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Objections are a normal part of court cases. Any lawyer can call an objection, what is important is if the judge Sustains or objects to the objection. An objection can be called for many different statements both good and bad.

A good example is when a witness makes a statement without having proof to substantiate the statement, a good lawyer will object to keep the jury from hearing it and going on court record. If the judge agrees, the objection will be sustained.

That is why the lawyer redirects the question or moves on most of Gallanter's objections were not sustained by the judge.

Michael D. Hemphill   October 2nd, 2008 1:41 pm ET

I have a serious issue with the prosecution questioning why Tom Scotto did not tell the police about the extortion plot?

I can agree with him not mentioning it to the police, especially when they will not do anything protect him from reprisal. Anyone would know that the person committing extortion will retaliate after being questioned.

I can see why Scotto would not take the risk to himself or his family.

I guess in Ashleigh Banfield's world, extortion plots don't worry her and she can receive protection by the police?

The police cannot even protect the normal everyday citizen trying to make a citizens arrest from reprisal. Why should Scotto trust them to protect him if he mentions the extortion plot?

Chris   October 2nd, 2008 1:42 pm ET

It's a shame several crooks get lighter sentences just to get one crook. If you put all of them in the town square with rocks I wonder how many would be left standing. Watchout lawyers don't stand too close.

Chuck   October 2nd, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Lets talk about the 500 elephant in the room..
Why did all these guys have tape recorders in the room? Did they plan to trap OJ? Recio sure did.. McClinton also had a tape recorder why? I think to trap OJ. What about Furmog, I think Recio and him were in this together. Why you ask the answer is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

What about the cop yesterday on the stand at the end of the case, when he spouts our about the previous witness OJ friend being ejected from the court room. I know he said his wife but you can't unring that bell. I believe that was scripted by the DA

Kathie, Ontario. Canada   October 2nd, 2008 1:50 pm ET

McClinton stated on the stand that he just KNEW what OJ wanted him to do .. and that was to bring guns. So now McClinton is now a
mentalist who by mental telepathy KNOWS what people are thinking and what they want him to do...
A gunslinging mentalist to go along with a gunslinging , bible totting
pimp...
Real Credible witnesses... NOT!!!!!!!!

Throughout this whole case the only one i feel sorry for is Judge Glass because of the way these Attorneys have repeatedly ran over her ,i think she has done a great job of trying this case and im supprised she hasent held anyone in contempt

Frank   October 2nd, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Question asked about how he's paying for in on TV...

My goodness, all of the free press Galanter is getting on this; much less the stroking of his ego.

Doubt Simpson is paying him anything, and sure his lawyers are happy with that.

suzy schwarz   October 2nd, 2008 2:15 pm ET

who profits from the gun carriers but the defendant

texas   October 2nd, 2008 2:21 pm ET

Julie, Thats the sign of a good attorney. The ANTICS that Gallanter tries to inject throughout the trial is just trying to keep all the attorneys, judge, witnesses testemoiny confused and trying to create a mistrial so that his client will not face a jurys decision. The judge however has not fallen for his ANTICS and has kept control of her courtroom and moved this trial along and not drag on like the other trial did. It's the tax payers that pay for this so my HATS off to her.

bebe   October 2nd, 2008 2:24 pm ET

I totally agree Kerri and that is why I believe he's going to walk, the
proscution, the judge and the gang that couldn't shoot straight all
want a piece of this notiriety and want their 15 minutes of fame. And
it's all going to blow up and their faces...

no way oj   October 2nd, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Guilty on armed robbery...not guilty kidnapping.

vicky   October 2nd, 2008 2:31 pm ET

What is wrong with this judge. I have never seen a judge be so one sided like she is in this case. The prosecution has the run of this court room. I wish Mr Simpson the best of luck. The people he was dealing with are very shady people.

Vicky

Caren   October 2nd, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Simpson thinks he is above the law. Thats why they are there today.
Unfortunately he will probably walk again because he surrounds himself with lowlife and so many remark who "Who can believe them"
although Simpson comes out worse with brutal murder on his record.

buddy   October 2nd, 2008 2:47 pm ET

I DONT UNDERSTAND,THIS CONFUSING CASE.I WANT2KNOW WHAT IS DA BIG ISSUE IT,S HE SAY I SAY,BESIDES THAT O.J SIMPSON DIDNT, HAVE A GUN HE DIDNT KIDKNAPPED ANYONE SO WHY IS HE BEING CHARGE HE HAS KNOW KNOWLEDGE OF ANY GUNS HE SAY,BUT THE CO-DEFENDANT DID SO. HOW CAN THAT BE PROVEN,BESIDES THAT DA CO-DEFENDANTS TESTIMONY SHOULD BE IR.RELEVANT DO2THE PLEA BARGAIN THEY AGREED2 MEANING THEY CREDIT BILITY SHOULD BE0.00PERCENT,BECAUSE THEY WERE MADE A DEAL,SO ITS NOT A REAL TRUE-FUL TESTIMONY,DA CO- DEFANDENTS OR TRYING2DO ANYTHING2STAY FREE, LEAVE O.J ALONE

Serena   October 2nd, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Well now that we have come to the end of the road we should all be in total agreement that O.J. did not tell anyone to bring guns. the robbery took place when "spence" decided to pull his gun and take the montana/rose stuff and the cell phone i think that O.J. and C.J. should have been called as witnesses for the state in the armed robbery trial of Mcclinton and Alexander clearly they are the armed robbers in the room everyone else are simply dupes in ricciogate.

i wonder if after they are aquitted can O.J and C.J. use those tapes in a malicious prosecution civil case? Can you explore this?

Serena

texas   October 2nd, 2008 3:13 pm ET

BINGO!!!! Through the jury's instructions ....Guilty!!!!!

Susan   October 2nd, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Answering Katie, Det. Caldwell and including Scotto said he did not go to police about this incident. Cauldwell even asked him out in the hall at the preliminary hearing if he wanted to give a statemeny and he said no.

Also Scotto was asked if he knew Erlich, he said yes and he was futher asked if he identified him in a photo for cops when they were still trying to identify all of the defendants and he said no, he said he would not and did not identify him for the police.

He is simpson's friend and he would do anything for him , even lie.

Susan   October 2nd, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Chuck, the Detective did not say it was Scotto, he said "Mrs" Scotto. They went back over the tape and it was determined they had make a huge explosive mistake. They replayed it today and he indeed say Mrs. Scotto.

Susan   October 2nd, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I agree Caren, simpson has gotten away with murder, literally, and he thinks he can do anything and that he is above the law. He took the law into his own hands with this crime.

Diane   October 2nd, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Sure OJ knew what to expect when they entered the hotel room. Why else take goons with you – why not call the police over his precious stolen "stuff"? Now he is back-pedalling trying to seem innocent of all charges. Throw him in the slammer and throw away the key!!!

PIDGET   October 2nd, 2008 3:31 pm ET

even if oj didn't open the cookie jar ,he stolethe cookie

Kathie, Ontario. Canada   October 2nd, 2008 3:48 pm ET

Susan: Scotto said over and over again that police told him that they would come and interview him when he called them and they kept
blowing him off.
The police including Vegas police refused RIccio's request to help
OJ recover his stuff .. ALong with the LA police and the FBI.
You don't suppose Scotto just gave up trying to tell them about it
because he couldn't get anywhere with them and their indifference.
I suppose you believe the police and the DA are above lying and
exaggerating things to get their conviction or discreit an important
witness for the defense.
Their transcripts were full of errors and ommission they refused
to recognized in order to get them used by the jury as a guide.
The first words out of Riccio's mouth were that they were inaccurate
and Beardsley said the same thing.. Grasso proved it to be true .
Owens stood up and told a bold faced lie that he was in the court
at the preliminary hearing and had to tolerate and was distracted
by Mr. Scotto and his antics and saw he had to be removed.
Replaying of the testimony it wasn't even MR. Scotto at all, and
his wife certainly wasn't asked to leave by the bailiff for WITNESS
TAMPERING..

another sad day in history for oj once again,,, and the ironic thing,, is another verdict watch for him 13 years till the day of his first trial back in 1995 on ocboter 3rd...
I feel the prosecutors got away with certain questions,,,, the defense kept getting objections to the same questions the prosecutors were asking,,, im appauled on how judge glass disrespected yale galanter,,, shes pro – prosecutor,,,,,, and i think there should be an investigation for a possible coersion between the office of the prosecutor and the judge,,,,, she slammed the defense time and time again,,,,,and for the other players in this fiasco,,,,all of them wanted to make money out of this ,, bottom line,,, for all of them are nothing more than a bunch of schemers,, and why oj put himself in this kind of company baffles me,,,,didnt he learn his lesson back then, to stay out of trouble,,,,,,,,,,,,, this was his stuff ,,,,,, not the goldmans,,, and most folks want some payback for the 95 trial,,,, its not about the goldmans ,,,, this was a stupid situation that got out of hand,,,,,,,,,,and i hope oj simpson and clarence stewart get a NOT GUILTY verdict,,,,i feel sorry for oj , he looks like a man that has been knocked down and defeated,,,, you can see it in his eyes,,,,,,, oj im rooting for you,, im probably one of the very few,, this isnt about race,, like most folks seem to want,,,,, for I am a causasion woman,, of filipino and italian descent,,,,, and i come from a military family and law enforcement,,, and this was a set up from the get- go by all the turncoats who flipped on oj,, and riccio as well,,,,,, i think the only one in this thing was beardsley,, he didnt want to be there ,, and he said he was not a victim,, with that said i hope a not guilty verdict for simpson and stewart,,,,,,,

nancy p   October 2nd, 2008 3:58 pm ET

also,, i think law enforcement in vegas was out to get oj,, some of the officers even said,, hey california couldnt get him ,, we can,, vegas can, it was on tape,,,, and this investigators expressions on his face while testifying showed it,,, he was as smug as ever,,,, i am appauled ,, and i come from a law enforcement family,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the prosecutors i think have a weak case,, and they were grabbing at straws ,, to make this detective say anything

Larry   October 2nd, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Everyone is talking about OJ's atty. being bad. Just the opposite, he is keeping everything and everyone confused. That is a smart tactic.

Stewart should be glad he was UNABLE to sever his case from OJ's, as he is benefitting also from OJ's quick minded atty. The DA at times, looks as tho he's a deer caught in the headlights. This judge may be a really good judge, but her cute little quips, and the way she instructs jurors not to talk, with that fast spiel she has down pat, look like too cute by half.

The reason OJ's atty. is running rough shod over her, he is that much sharper in the law than she is. He has put so many "hinks" in the trial, that he is all set for an appelate reversal.

Storm   October 2nd, 2008 4:11 pm ET

O.J. was a great football player, but obviously someone with a bad temper. It is my personal opinion that he did murder, and that he did this as well, but we'll see.

Much thanks for the Judge not taking any BS this time around.

Serena   October 2nd, 2008 4:17 pm ET

WTG Nancy!!!!

wasnt it stated that the goldmans werent entitled to things of O.J.s that werent valued at over $500.00 each? as the items in the case were not over that amount O.J. didnt need to hide them. these items were stolen from him and Fromong is just as slimy as the others he was O.J.s friend and they were so close why didnt he tell him when mike gilbert sold him the stolen goods surely if they were that close he knew that he was buying stolen goods and should have returned the items to O.J.

Diane   October 2nd, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Boo Hoo Hoo... Galanter is almost as arrogant as his client and his behaviour in the court room was appalling. I think the judge did a great job. The reason she didn't sustain objections against the prosecution is that the defense didn't have as many witnesses and she didn't have to. Haven't you heard the saying "You are as good as the company you keep"? Look at all the other co-defendants that were present at the incident. OJ surrounded himself with thugs, so what does that make him?? He knew he was in the wrong. Cry all you want Nancy P – there's no tears for OJ here!!

susan o   October 2nd, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Why do so many people think that the police are "out to get" OJ?
What would their reasoning be for such conduct? Mark Furhman did not plant the glove or the blood evidence in the first trial. Why would he? OJ feels like he is above the law. He demonstrated this when he orchestrated the memorabilia event in Las Vegas. Normal people would have called the police to retrieve items they believed were stolen. OJ just wanted to keep his belongings out of the Goldman's hands. Fred Goldman should be waiting outside the courtroom with a UHaul. Everything belongs to him by virtue of the civil court ruling.
OJ belongs behind bars if not for this armed robbery then for first degree murder when he practically cut off the head of the mother of his children. And murdered an innocent bystander. Hopefully this Vegas jury will be better equipped mentally to take on OJ, unlike the first jury. One woman on the first jury said to a reporter, "DNA? What's DNA? It was only a little blood". Who thinks like that?

Jodi H.   October 2nd, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Very well stated Kathie-Canada, and Nancy P., it is soooo obvious that they are all out to "get O.J." and we all know it is for the murder charges he was acquitted on, and for the others involved to make lots of $$$$$$, for the crooked law-"A NAME" and Fame!!!! How dare O.J. want back what is (was) rightfully his, and how dare him want HIS FAMILY PHOTOS!!!! Heaven help us all with this "Justice System" as it is!!!! We are praying for you O.J., and we hope they find you NOT GUILTY, then may you go live your life in PEACE!!!!

Stephanie   October 2nd, 2008 5:43 pm ET

So what if they get him even if he is not guilty, justice will
FINALLY be served !

I agree with the police, their comment about if the LA detectives could not get him 14 year ago but we will is right on.

I just can not wait to see that big mellon heads face when the GUILTY verdict is finally read.

Good by OJ ..................

ncruss   October 2nd, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Nancy,I thought it was law enforcements job to get all criminals and
O.J. sure fits that discription. If justice is served and as usual
probably want be this time, he (O.J.) won't be lounging around any
bars and playing golf with the thugs that he usually hangs out with for
quite a while. Poor ol 'teflon' O.J. will probably be turned loose on the
public to commit another crime.
I feel so sorry for the jerk, law enforcement keeps right on coming
up with these trumped up charges against him.. We all know that he would never do anything illegal !!!! Ha

Bill   October 2nd, 2008 6:12 pm ET

OJ's attorney keeps bringing in the claim that OJ was trying to recover property stolen from him, yet no theft report was ever made to any law enforcement agency by him or anyone associated with him.

This is basic Defense 101: Confuse, Conceal, and Fabricate.

Jim N   October 2nd, 2008 6:41 pm ET

No matter how man smoke screens the defense throws out, all of the yanking and talking by Galander, nothing he can say or show disproves the FACT that OJ went into that hotel room with his hand selected group and forceable robbed two people. Nothing can change the FACT that two people had guns. These are crimes and OJ was a part of it. There is no justice if OJ walks.

buddy number 2   October 2nd, 2008 7:24 pm ET

"Galanter"....just said about 20 min. ago "committed the crime" in his closing ...Ahemmmm......Mistake?????.........or subconscious.......He immediately staled things by drinking water {{TO GATHER HIS THOUGHTS}}.....the con artist slipped

bucky666   October 2nd, 2008 7:44 pm ET

i'm not judging anything from 1995, i in fact do not think he ever did it
but had someone else do it & he was there! whaterver; you people must be watching a trial on some other planet., or you are all out getting a bev. from the fridg... pay attention & listen!

j. renee   October 2nd, 2008 7:46 pm ET

OJ you sat and mumbled the whole trial, when you get your chance to testify and tell the jury what happen, you wither.

Probably a smart move, you could run fast with a football, beat the **** out of your wife, repeatedly, but you're not fast enough to stay ahead of the prosecution. They would have made chopped liver of you on the stand. COWARD!

Joan   October 2nd, 2008 7:59 pm ET

In the event that OJ gets a Not Guilty verdict once again wonder how long it will be till he does something else STUPID. You cannot continuosly run with thugs and break the law without dire consequences at some point. Sure wish he (OJ) would wisen up!!!!!!!

michael k   October 2nd, 2008 8:33 pm ET

I have watched a great deal of the trial and I have only a few thoughts: Judge Glass has done an excellent job, sort of makes Judge Ito look like an intelligent, but brain-dead civil servant. Secondly, the defense Attorney's in the case have to be pretty far down the food chain, considering OJ's finances. Aggressive, yes, yet they have very little to work with, gun in the room, what 5 big guys demanding a return of property. I am thinking at this point, 8 or 9 of the charges stick and we get to have OJ giving interviews for the next 15 to 20 years from "the slammer"..

Michael D. Hemphill   October 2nd, 2008 9:20 pm ET

It seems like not too many people pay attention to what has been said or heard in this court case.

First: OJ did try to get help from Las Vegas police and the FBI, they could not help him because there is no report of stolen items. Maybe in certain parts of different cities the cops will help otr investigate for you, in certain areas of Los Angeles, you don't get help from the police when you have an issue like this, it is called, Hearsay!

Second: The police were not going to help Scotto if he told them about the extortion issue. The cops would have placed his family at risk. I don't know about you, but I would not want to constantly watch over my shoulder every time I walk away from my house or drop my child off at school. Someone like McClinton will retaliate after the cops question and release him due to a no issue or Hearsay!

Barry M   October 2nd, 2008 11:23 pm ET

I really find it hard to believe that so many people seem to think that OJ didn't see a gun or may not have seen the gun purported to be in the room... And on top of that, many people saying there is no proof that OJ had anything to do with making sure guns were used. What does it take to see that when O.J. found out about the concealed weapons permit the thug had that points directly to the fact that he KNEW a gun was coming in with this boy... And then the recordings that are so very very clear, exclaiming you didn't pull the piece in the hallway did you? Did you? Just those two issues alone convict OJ of knowing the guns were in that room. You could strip away all of the other nonsense and look at those two facts and come to a conclusion based on facts. OJ made sure there were guns in that room because he knew that the other guys just might have a gun on them. He wouldn't want to walk into that situation without a gun with one or a couple of his boys... And oh yeah... OJ didn't see the Gun in that room??? That does not even pass the laugh test... It astounds me and explains to me why some people get away with murder; They watch the illusion of a grand master of deception instead of the facts. Look at the facts, and the facts declare, get ready for some jail time OJ... It’s about time... the facts may not be as exciting or alluring, but they sure do paint the real picture... OJ behind bars, now that’s a picture worth printing...,

Dennis B   October 3rd, 2008 1:41 am ET

OJ's defense lawyers tried to make sure the jury only heard his side in regards to the stuff was stolen from OJ, when in fact it was never stolen from him, he had these people take it from his home on rockingham, they never stole anything. On tape oj telling Ricco they couldn't do this deal in California, because of the turn over order against him, OJ should be taken back to court on deliberately defying the court order to turn the property over, thats why he couldn't report it stolen in california, because it wasn't. OJ should count his blessings that, if convicted of these vegas charges, he will still be alive while in jail, as he should be on death row in california, awaiting a needle, for double murder, then to have the gall to want to release a book " if i did it ", this arrogant idiot needs to be in jail. Not one time has OJ ever HIMSELF tried to file ANY kind of a report that he had anything stolen from him at anytime. Think about it, if OJ would have gone into the palace station, went to security, and made a scene, and DEMANDED they call the police, because he knew there were items of his in this room, he could have gotten the police there, and did things the right way, but he knew if the police got involved he wouldn't get the stuff anyway because of the turn over order, like the criminal he is, he was out to flaunt the court order to turn over. why would anyone feel sorry for a double murder?? I hope this jury finds him guilty of all charges, by the law, he is guilty!!

Sue   October 3rd, 2008 2:29 am ET

I've seen everything now. After the defense had concluded their closing arguments, the State added their last arguments. The attorney for the State brought up stuff about the Goldmans. Gallanter objected, but the Judge as usual, played her "dumb card" and said she didn't have her notes, so the jury could decide for themselves. That was after Gallanter reminding her of the discussion they had had about that not coming in. Just another proof that the Judge is so biased in favor of the Prosecution. The Judge plays up to the jury trying to get them to like her. It's a known fact, the jury usually votes for the way the judge leans. She should be disbarred.

CJ   October 3rd, 2008 8:16 am ET

Lets get real here people......did the police make some stupid remarks and jokes? Of course they did, in the past 12 years OJ Simpson has become a joke to the entire nation by his own arrogance and actions. People keep saying Poor pitiful OJ the cops wouldn't help him get his stuff back. The simple fact is that OJ never filed a police report (because it wasn't stollen in the first place) and even if he had there are statutes of limitations that prevent police from becoming involved in some things. He was advised to contact an attorney and take the person who "stole" his stuff to civil court to recover the property. God knows he has a lawyer on his payroll so why didn't he do this the legal way if he honestly just wanted his stuff? OJ is not only guilty of armed robbery but of being an arrogant fool who acts continuously without thinking.

ALEX   October 3rd, 2008 8:22 am ET

I saw a judge that was one sided. a cop that makes you not want to trust cops. mcclinton had a different story how he held his gun, not like the others had said. the state got anything theywanted the defense was overruled. alot of different stories by everyone on the stand. riccico walked free after putting this together, what a coward. everyone recorded something but failed to record oj saying BRING GUNS whyis that .stupid is as stupid does oj stay home play golf enough already the public is losing faith in the courts judges lawyers and COPS that judge is such a drama queen

Lynda (Brampton, Canada)   October 3rd, 2008 9:23 am ET

I just know if I were truly innocent of a crime I'd been charged with. . I'd be screaming to want to tell my story in front of every one and any one ... No matter how shady your past is . . . Stand up for yourself . . . and don't be afraid of telling the truth . . . it's the Liar that needs a good memory . . . these criminals that stand behind fast-talking lawyers . . hoping for the best . . this isn't justice.

So why don't "innocent" defendants scream for the opportunity to take the stand . . . I Instead . . they sit there as smug as can be. I just don't get it . . .

Richard   October 3rd, 2008 11:42 am ET

I live in Las Vegas and know I would not have been chosen as a jurist. I would have a hard time seperating the events of 13 years ago.
Having said that, I am surprised this even went to trial. The entire cast of characters are a bunch of goons, that would not hesitate to lie to keep their buts out of jail. Leaving a meeting to go to a spy shop to buy a camera and recording devise . . . give me a break.
I personally think OJ will be fould guilty, but not by the information I have heard in THIS case.

jody   October 3rd, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Oh "poor picked on O.J" give me a break, he knew what he was doing, knew the people he had involved had their "checkered" past. Why else would he had gotten them to help him? I believe he is so arrogant that he sees himself above the law and he can do what pleases him, with no consequences and it is always someone elses fault. And I really think it is funny that he never thought any of his "friends" would not protect themselves with recordings in case they were caught, give me a break, they just out-sleezed him and flipped because they knew what they had done was wrong and tried to save their own butts, yes they made money off of it but he would have and has done that past or present. "What goes around comes around" and all things have a way of working out and justice will finally be served.

nancy p   October 3rd, 2008 5:36 pm ET

im not saying what he did was the most intelligient thing in this world , i think it was a stupid assinine huge mistake on his part,,,,but with those witnesses ,, who i may add have records themselves, and is out to make money for themselves,,, you just have to sit and scratch your head,, and ask yourself why??? why ??? and i will say this again,, this judge should be disbarred for her showboating ways,, and for being too pro prosecutor.....im sorry but not guilty for both oj simpson and cj stewart,, even the detective had a smug look on his face testifying,,,, and it showed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the prosecutors got away with a lot of things here,, and the defense was very much disrespected,,,,,

Bea Pierce   December 2nd, 2008 1:19 pm ET

I believe that most people under the same circumstances would reacted the same way O. J. did in trying to retrieve belongings they felt were 'stolen' from them. There was probably a better way to go about it, however. The Goldman's should be on thier knees everyday asking God to soften their hearts and rid themselves of all the hatred, evilness, bitterness, and greed that they have been experiencing since the tragic deaths 13 years ago of Ron & Nicole. However, the jury has spoken and they should go on with thier lives and accept the jury's verdict and stop trying to get money, and try healing instead. Go out and find the real killers if you are so desvastated (which you may or may not be- I think it's all about the money, in your case, and maybe, even the Brown's –well for, Denise, anyway). Does anyone think about the children of Nicole?? Does anyone offer any kind of emphathy towards them?? Just learn to forgive, and heal your bitter broken hearts and try to move on! O. J. deserves to not be punished for something a jury said he was not guilty of, and treated fairly in the justice system ( a JOKE), and given another trial composed of a jury of his 'peers', not a bunch of vindictive people who were obviously biased from the beginning, along with the judge and prosecutor! That trial was truly a miscarriage of justice.

Its all about Karma.
If OJ did not get away with a double murder, he would not have been convicted on these charges.
He's got what he had coming to him, from Ron & Nicole....Boo
If there is a God, we do have spirits......

OJ's lied just caught up with him – He has lied since the very beginning – If did not killed Nicole, why did he take off running for hours ... why did he leave a note saying not to take it out on his children for they had been through enough? – He had money – paid for the best lawyers who got him out but – he got right back into trouble anyway –
You just take a look at the man – and it's not very difficult to see his soul!
He got what he deserved and should have had a long time ago.
I do not know what I would do if I had someone kill a member of my family – so please – just do not judge Nicole's family and accuse them of bitterness, evil doing etc .... this is not good. It had to be very difficult for them to see OJ live a normal life while their child was dead – murdered by that man who did not get punished – certainly because of the color of his skin = No doubt. Everyone with common sense saw through it.
Things caught up with him though – he is, no doubt, where he belongs – I do believe he was set up in order for him to pay for the murder – if so – it surely was well planned – and a well done job! Recorded statements – phone calls and all! – good job whoever done it – congratulations.
