Strange bedfellows

Posted: 01:36 PM ET

NEW YORK - Al Beardsley has really been put through the ringer. Of all the players in this mess, he's got the longest rap sheet. When the whole thing went down he went back to jail for being out of state – a violation of his parole. And now he's behind bars again, after Tom Riccio alleged Beardsley was making threats, another violation.

Thomas Riccio and Alfred Beardsley

Funny thing is, Alfred Beardsley may the most straight up guy in the room. After all, he's the alleged victim here. He has nothing to gain in this case. No sweetheart deals for him.

But the others, the four flipped co-defendants? They have everything to gain. Get your stories together and get a deal, which gives prosecutors the great white whale they've been seeking all along. And leave Clarence "C.J." Stewart just out of luck.

It's hard to know who to believe in all of this. But I put my money on the two who have the least to gain. The irony is they are the two men who hate each other most, Tom Riccio and Al Beardsley. Not because I like these guys. Not because I trust them. But because they are the two with no reason to lie. And the truth can make for strange bedfellows indeed. And that's the Last Word.

Why is this Judge so Bias against O.J. and Steward Defense team, and know holds bar for the Prosecution. This show just how far the prosecutors ae wiling to go just to convict OJ.

I can't agree with this. If O.J. beats this, then he could still be a cash cow for Riccio and Beardsley. Remember these two guys are always looking for ways to make money, so a little pandering doesn't hurt.

The four other guys have pleaded guilty to lesser charges, but why would they plead at all if they believed they hadn't committed any crimes?

I'm sorry, but I'm putting my money on the four people facing jail, especially McClinton, whose record has been spotless enough to have a concealed weapons license.

It is patently obvious that the defense attorneys for Mr. Simpson are attempting to portray his (Mr. Simpson's) phone calls as professions of innocence, rather than what they truly are: patently self-servicing testimony. Simpson has been around the judicial block a few times and, though sociopatheic and egomaniacal, is far from stupid. I hope the jury is able to see through this obvious smoke screen.

gloria   September 26th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Jami is too biased. Everyone knows she hopes OJ gets off. However, as an anchor...enough is enough of her opinion. When she is on...we are now off!

G. E. Smith   September 26th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Least to gain from this whole affair. Riccio has been and will continue to cash in on this in a huge financial way. As for Beardsley-he wants to marry oj or maybe have his baby or something. I think if Beardsley could find an old pairof OJ's underwear he'd never wash or take them off.
So if I read your last paragraph correctly Jami you say you believe Riccio and Beardsley-well guess what-both testified to seeing the guns and being in on the Armed Robbery with Simpson. So I guess now you agree that he is guilty as charged of armed robbery kidnapping etc. etc. .......

Barbara   September 26th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

This judge is very confusing sometimes. While I am not nessessarily an OJ fan, I don't think this is a fair trial. The other two men that made deals, they did it because they were carrying "heat". I'm not convinced OJ knew there were guns, I never heard anything to suggest he knew it from anyone I believed.

If he believed there were personal items like the pictures from his mother and his home how can it be a robbery. Perhaps a stupid idiotic way to get it back,.I think Las Vegas is just trying to rope OJ in.

He should not get off scott free. But the charges as they are now???? Ridiculous!!!

Jeff Martinez   September 26th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

I agree, but to say strange bedfellows is a bit harsh hehe. Also what is very interesting is that the stories are all the same between the witnesses. So if you take all the evidence and questions each lawyer had... you will see that the jury will most likely see everything matches up between all the witnesses; yes some stuff was misunderstood in preliminary up to now because of the nature of this case. But everyone knows that police and everyone involved had to be extremely cautious because there is a star involved.

On the flip side we will see the nail in the coffin as soon as McClinton testifies (excellent choice by the prosecution to use the best for last) he had the gun in holster and says OJ ordered him to bring heat. That right there will shed the light on the "Ring Leader." Why else would all these people help OJ with is credibility? Obviously not to help him out... It's all been said by everyone, they all have admitted they wanted some sort of cash deal... except the defendents hence why they are pleading the 5th... which is unfortunate because they only way they will have a chance is if they testify... however that won't happen because OJ is socially inept which everyone knows by his "Hollywood Facial Guilt Gestures." Where your body only does this when you are trying to persuade viewers because of your status (its called reverse psychology) however it worked the first time, it won't work this time...

Remember in the first trial the prosecution waited to use the glove nearing its closure, and they failed because they didn't take into account that blood and moist air can decrease the size of leather and make it harder. Which is why the jury aquitted oj, because the perception of the glove not fitting unfortunately gives the impression he was setup.

That won't happen with McClinton... good job Owens and the prosecution... as well as the judge for sustaining all the prosecutions arguments and over ruling the defense...

The defense is making mistakes by speculating too much, and/or assuming that people said things based of testimony. They are also making the mistake by bringing up the witnesses credibility because OJs credibility is just as bad as there's.

Remember OJ chose the witnesses/defendant; not the prosecution, and thats why OJ will see handcuffs. And that's the Last Word.

non-fan   September 26th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

I know we have all know people like Riccio in our lives; know it alls, with big mouths and swollen heads. Bearsley seems like an average person with nothing to gain. We know Riccio is selling t-shirt space and hat space to advertise for anyone to keep rolling in the bucks off Mr. Simpson. The tapes, a book and a sweetheart deal of immunity. Not bad for a person that states he knows Tom Cruse and other famous people, kind of a Kato ya think? I said it was a set up as soon as I heard Riccio testify.
About the Judge, haven’t you heard that there are already Judges in Vegas that are corrupt and action is being taken to remove them? This Judge needs to have her name put on that list. If he is convicted, which I doubt, I know it has to be overturned as she has made so many mistakes. It does show her basis for the Prosecution. So guys, what happens in Vegas is always prosecuted in Vegas! So maybe you should do what I do and stay away from the Vegas and then they will realize how to spend taxpayer’s dollars next time.

I don’t even like Mr. Simpson, Football or Golf. But enough is enough already. I think no matter where this man goes, the law enforcement agencies will try to be the jury for what he was legally acquitted. What happened to Reasonable Doubt?????

More important issues like voting for the next President, the $700 Billion to Wall Street and the Price of gas. Use Taxpayer’s dollars for crimes that really happened, not to close a chapter on a person’s life that was decided years ago.

John J.   September 26th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Believe Beardsley? Maybe. I thought he sugar coated his testimony to not hurt anybody except Riccio. He sounded frantic when he called 911 to report a robbery naming OJ as the thief. Yet, he testified on the stand that he called 911 only for insurance purposes? Now, he does regret being involved in this case and thats probably true.

josh   September 26th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

IF THE GUN DID FLAIL, HE GOES TO JAIL

John   September 26th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

All I know after its over, OJ will probably walk again, but I do think conspiracy is a well known fact, even though the attorneys for OJ try and dispute that on every hand, And I would rather die with dignity than to let the attorneys for OJ represent me in any legal matters, they really shine in how sleazy they are , you can really pick that up by watching it and I have watched this trial religiously, my wife has previously said you would think you are going to win a million dollars by watching it.For the million dollars , Im sure OJ and his henchmen will make millions off of this.

Jim N   September 26th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Beardsley's 9-11 call to police after OJ and his group of thugs committed armed robbery tells it all, convincingly and convictingly. No ax to grind with OJ, just the plain truth coming out from Bearsdley, a man who just got set up by Riccio and was robbed at gun point by OJ and his group. How can any responsible, intelligent jury member who is deciding the case based on the evidence and not OJ's color disregards those facts.

pat Moran   September 26th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Common sense will prevail in the jury's verdict especially after hearing all of McClinton's testimony. Jami, he may have the "best defense" money-wise as regards "pit bull" Galanter BUT justice will get the best of O.J. on a good portion of the charges against him. He's not going to worm his way out of this one. And here's my last word, Jami, GUILTY!

Erinn Jene   September 26th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

Let me see if I got this right. OJ was setup by everyone in this robbery including the people that he actually called and asked to help him. This sounds so familiar....ummm........I know. All those detectives and officers of the LAPD most of whom never worked with each other got together and planted evidence to frame OJ for murdering two people. Naive, stupid, racist, gullible are just several adjectives come to my mind in describing people that actually believe those fairy tales.

Joe in Arizona   September 26th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

Jami Floyd keeps saying that OJ’s former co-defendants that are testifying for the state have a “checkered” past. Well they are OJ’s friends and business partners, not the prosecutors. Maybe the next time that OJ attempts to commit armed robbery and kidnapping he should bring the Vienna Boys Choir. My mother always said you are judged to the company you keep. OJ needs to keep better company, or better yet grow up and stop making stupid mistakes

Gregg   September 26th, 2008 9:03 pm ET

Vegas is corrupt.it is a plain as day .you dont cut deals to people who had a gun and threatened people just to get OJ .sure OJ is a idiot .but it was a set up and Vegas police have made a fool out of themselves.look how many judges are in the spotlight in Vegas for corruption..if OJ gets off its becuase of the justice system in vegas .they all should go down for this .so Vegas has set themselves up to lose this case .and the waist of tax payers dollars ..dont you think it stands out that corruption is in the air when 5 people flip just to get OJ..this is very sad to see this trial and that vegas have made a fool of themselves in the justice system.big time bias sorry vegas but you need to clean up your act ,the whole nation is watching

James N   September 26th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

I really love some of the comments but none of them address the issue at hand. Did OJ and his group of thugs, handpicked by OJ, commit robbery? Did OJ and his group of thugs, handpicked by OJ commit armed robbery? The answers to both questions are clearly yes to the intelligent. Has our legal system went down hill so bad that we will allow this liar, this murderer, walk again. We have the sworned testimony of Bearsdley who has no ax to grind and his 9-11 call recording clearly reflects that he was robbed at gunpoint. If we let OJ, an obvious liar, killer and conman walk, I am ashamed to be a American and I am an African American.

LeeAnn   September 27th, 2008 2:13 am ET

I have been liatening . Thare are some things that the judge has gone over that I have not agreed with. I enderstand tha t she does not want the same "media" as the "OJ" muder trail, but does that not put her with the same judgement as she has said would not happen in this trial.

LeeAnn   September 27th, 2008 2:18 am ET

cont/ hit the wrong key, I for one believe that OJ does have the a sise that is not nice that is more then mean. But when a person is set up with what seems to be all the bases covered that is wrong. Just give enough time and the person will uncover himeself. ( If one tries to this for a person her is just as wrong.)

j. renee   September 27th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

I wonder why Clarence Stewart is doing down for OJ? I wouldn't go to jail for anyone, especially OJ SIMPSON!!! He should have made a deal with the state. Poor fellow, he has drank the OJ koolade, and is convinced that Simpson will get them off.

Barry Robinson   September 27th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

If ever there were grounds for a mistrial then this is it. Judge Glass is so biased against the defense is has seriously affected her judgement. She has made mistake after mistake so much so that OJ (and I am not a fan) is not getting a fair trial. I hope that the other reprobates go down and do time as will OJ. and that includes Riccio.
In my opinion it has now degenerated into a Kangaroo court and like all Kangaroos courts it is doomsday for OJ

What a waste of tax payers money.

Audrey   September 28th, 2008 11:44 am ET

So OK-Fine!...the flippers made a deal and are saying they brought guns to satisfy the DA. Let's not forget that the victems (although shady as well) have testified without making any sweet deals to say there were guns and all have said they saw the same. Ya can't un-ring the bell. The entire OJ clan in the room, victims and defendants should be convicted and sent to jail. Under all this OJ is a time bomb waiting to go off. All these guys are going to have to watch their backs after the trial whether they are convicted or not.
It's bedtime for the Juice and he should be safely put away.

Audrey   September 28th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Regarding Gale's question above....
"Why is this Judge so Bias against O.J. and Steward Defense team, and know holds bar for the Prosecution. This show just how far the prosecutors ae wiling to go just to convict OJ."

If you have been watching Gale, you will note that the Prosecution Lawyer's was better behaved than the Defence Lawyer's. All the interuptions came from the defence.

Spider   September 29th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Jami Floyd's defense oriented slip is showing.

Amazing how all the prosecution witnesses would commit perjury for the all mighty dollar, but poor, unloved and discriminated against O.J. would never tell a lie, just to keep his conceited, sociopathic rear end out of jail.

Spider   September 29th, 2008 12:17 pm ET

non-fan-

Define reasonable doubt for me.
Is there a "reasonable doubt" that O.J. gathered a half dozen thugs together for the sole purpose of intimidating two people into relinquishing property?
That is a "crime that did happen".

Explain to me why, because you are found innocent by reasonable doubt to one crime you are, forevermore, free to do whatever you want, regardless of it's legality.

Gary in Wi.   September 29th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

There is so much questioning about who said what, but it seems to prove everyone one involved for their own self serving reasons. All the jurors need is to listen to the 6 minute recording and hear that the crimes were commited with the peramiters the law defines each crime charged in this case
Gary in Wi.

Gary in Wi.   September 29th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Bottom line is that there were guns, people were told not to leave, things were taken and good old OJ was there. The who's, whats, and wheres dont matter. Crimes were committed and and OJ was there. Case should end up with this conclution

Gary in Wi.   September 29th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

From what I understand the law to be, If a bank robbery was committed and a person was shot or killed, if you were involved in that robbery, even a get away car driver, you will be charged with the same crimes, including the shooting. If you were involved it does not matter if you had the gun. Correct me if I am wrong.
Gary in Wisconsin

j. renee   September 29th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Gary in WI, you are right as rain, my friend you are right!!!

Anthony Myles   September 29th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

Wow the human race has really hit rock-bottom. All of these people that hate O.J. because of something that couldn't be proven years ago. I mean come on some of the prosecutions wittnessess have contradicted their own self so much that its funny. One witness even stated that he would have changed his testimony the other way if he didnt get what he wanted from the D.A. And he admitted that he was upset that Riccio got a better deal then him, that right there should show that those guys are only out for themselves. And would make false claims or extort the truth. Stop with all the hate and open your eyes people, the guy didnt know about the guns and was set-up from the jump. AND THATS THE LAST WORD.

Erinn Jene   September 29th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

The 9-11 call Beardsley made to police clearly shows that there was an armed robbery. Beardsley was setup by Riccio, had no ax to grind with OJ and he was clearly upset and still is that he got setup. OJ entered that hotel room with the sole purpose of stealing property with the help and aid of his friends, two of which were armed. If that is not committing a crime, then are legal system has went totally down the toilet.

texas   September 29th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

You are correct Gary in Wi. Crimes were commited by the parameters of the law and OJ was involved...PERIOD!!. Even taken your own personel things by force is against the law.

Steve   September 30th, 2008 7:57 am ET

I never realized Jami Floyd is so biased and willing to ignore the facts of this case. I would bet she thinks that O.J. did'nt kill Nicole. Does she have a "crush" on O.J. or what? She should'nt let it distort her perception of this case. The recordings clearly prove he asked for a gun to be brought to the meeting. Shame on you Jami.
Steve

gloria   October 1st, 2008 12:26 am ET

Anthony Myles is a dreamer. The room was so small. 2 guns that everyone saw but OJ. Are you stupid or what?? Why would anyone go there if OJ didn't ask them to?? It wasn't their stuff. If OJ said it was taken from him (no true, paid debts with it) then go to the police. But he wouldn't because he knew it wasn't stolen. And if the police got wind of it, it would go to the Goldmans.....remember them! Lock him and his girlfriend Jami up together....and that's the last word.

Erma   October 1st, 2008 3:16 pm ET

ALL OF THE MEN TESTIFYING AT THE TRIAL AND LYING TO GET A PLEA AGGREEMENT IS JUST AS QUILTY AS OJ AND SHOULD BE UP THERE BEING JUDGED BY THE JURY NOT BY THE PROSECUTORS WHO GAVE THEM A PLEA DEAL, WHAT'S RIGHT IN THIS COURT TRIAL, ALL SHOULD BE TREATED EQUAL. SO ALL THE SAME PEOPLE DID THIS TOGETHER, HOW CAN THEY JUST CHARGE ONE PERSON. THE TRIAL SHOULD BE A MIS-TRIAL AND THROWN OUT.

Corey   October 3rd, 2008 1:53 pm ET

I was just watching Ashley Banfield interveiwing Riccio.
Sleebag! He such an idiot he can't complete a sentence without yammering on and on and on, and at the end of the interview, he tried to plug another website which he's using to make MORE money off of OJ.
This guy has no ethics or morals.

Fannie   October 6th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

To Jami,
You misquoted the Juror who said, "That's my opinion. I said my opinion and that's what I think– it's up to the court system."

He said this in response to your reporter's comment, "Some people think he should have been put in jail 13 years ago."

HE WASN'T SAYING "THAT'S MY OPINION– he should have been put in jail 13 years ago."

GET IT RIGHT...AREN'T YOU IN ESSENCE BEING PAID TO ACCURATELY LISTEN? AND THEN SPEAK?
