Bible, or not

Posted: 03:26 PM ET

NEW YORK - Walter Alexander not only put his hand on the Bible before he took the stand, he brought his own Bible to court.

Walter Alexander on the stand Wednesday

But has he read it? Because I listened to his testimony and I think he needs to review the Ten Commandments. You don’t even have to get that far into the good book to find them. They show up at Exodus, Chapter 20 and again in Deuteronomy, Chapter 5.

And I want to refer Mr. Alexander to one particular Commandment: Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor. That Commandment has made it’s way all the way from Mount Sinai to the common law, to the law of the state of Nevada. Which is precisely why he swore to tell the truth in the court of law and the first place, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

But Walter Alexander, it seems, did nothing of the sort. Instead, it seems, he lied about asking for money to slant his testimony, about his anger with O.J. Simpson because Simpson hadn’t paid for Alexander’s father’s funeral, and about what he does for a living.

So how do we know whether he’s lying about what happened in this case? Well, we don’t. And if we don’t, we can’t send two men to prison on his word, Bible or not. And that’s the Last Word.

just like back then, when they said o j wore a bennie he is still oj why would o j need guns he is still oj.he didnt do it then an he didnt rob anyone now.an im blind from salt lake city utah

John J.   September 25th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

There is an old saying: "Birds of a feather ... flock together."
Forget O.J's past legal problems. The fact that he continues to associate himself with people that have a criminal history hurts his reputation and credibility. Frankly, I don't know how we can believe anything he says.

T.J.   September 25th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Just let this trial continue. Too many sidebars and this jury does not appreciate. Both sides are just too nitpicky and need to get this over and done. Let the witnesses tell their story.

Kim   September 25th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Are C. J. Stewart and O.J. going to be put on the stand by the defense? If so I can't wait to hear the REAL truth about what happened in that room!!!! Because we all know that both of these guys are upstanding, God fearing, humble, innocent, wrongly accused, gentle as kittens and have never, ever, ever, ever broken the law in their lives (and probably never told a lie). Come on Jami get a clue. As far as you are concerned every one who has testified has lied about everything that happened. And every one who has testified has made money since the 'alleged' robbery. And since we know that O.J. already tried to write a book about what he would have done in 1994 had he done it..what makes you think he hasn't already signed a book deal for this case? Guarantee he will make money on this.

i understand commercials are necessary, but all the commentary is too much....people that watch court tv often dont need to be told what were seeing

C.Jackson (California)   September 25th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

You know Jami, it's probable Walter Alexander may have read the good book and twisted the word to his moral beliefs of right and wrong. Had he of said, "Get Behind Satin" when asked to go the that hotel room, then it's possible he would not be on the witness stand now talking about, God told him to take a deal.

What gets me is Alexander's demanor during questioning. At first he was ready to tell everything he knew and then some, to save his behind. There was also no problem hearing him speak. Then all of a sudden you could not hear him. He got very defensive in his answers and with counsel. It seemed like he had something to hide. The Judge had to tell him to come closer to mic to be heard! To me he looked scared that he was about to get ripped a new one, by counsel.

Can you please show the whole trial instead of cutting it off at the lunch break

The State lost their case today. To an uneducated person, if this case were based on government wittiness's this case would be called entrapment.

After hearing testimony for the last few days, if I were the district Attorney, I would quick see if Mr Simpson and his co defendant would plead guilty to the same charges as the others because their case is so thin they will be acquitted if it goes to the jury.

This case in my opinion is a waste of the tax payers money. This type of case goes on a daily basis in the United States, and unless we were talking about Mr Simpson it would have never gone to trial in the first place.

Josh   September 25th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

....and to think that these are all OJ's friends... all of them liars, cheaters, thugs....OJ should feel right at home in jail... maybe he can borrow Alexander's Bible to pass the time away!

lotusjani   September 26th, 2008 6:40 am ET

Without the commercial breaks, we wouldn't have TrueTV, someone has to pay their bills!
Keep up the good work Jamie, your commentary is always most welcome and it is an interesting ending to your daily show.
This Alexander is a joke, he is rude, he looks mean, he is a crook, and he is a liar. The judge sways openly towards the D.A. who is just wasting taxpayer's money with this "trial".

Tracy   September 26th, 2008 8:45 am ET

None of it matters anyway..cause we all know that O.J. will walk again!!! He may not pay through our judicial system, but he will pay in life ..God have mercy on his black heart!!

Jean Winstead   September 26th, 2008 10:26 am ET

THE BEST DEFENSE says it all. When the commentaries "LAST WORD" are consistently trivial and either discrediting the witnesses against OJ or good ole OJ has been overcharged and this case should never be here. How could anybody actually say that. All I can say is that if THIS is your BEST DEFENSE; it is pathetic and if the jury doesn't weigh this trial more than that; our judicial system has reached a terrible low. If nullification is the solution to finding someone guilty and not wanting to put them in prison we will walk among our criminals. If a witness that turns state's evidence gets denigrated in the legal televised court, maybe NOBODY should turn state's evidence. How many criminals do you believe would be convicted without some witnesses rolling? Law abiding people are not what was around OJ; it was his peers and, therefore, these are the people that are privy to his actions. Nullification and denigration of witnesses is what I have gotten from BEST DEFENSE's LAST WORD.

Chuck Rochester, NY   September 26th, 2008 10:31 am ET

I agree with Minnie/CA. to many comments and commerical breaks.

Why not go past 3PM EST? No body watches after 3PM anyway.

BOB RETTLE   September 26th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Bible should be allowed in court simply because GOD became a part of the trial when witness was sworn in. some believe that GOD wrote the Bible. so there's the connection!

G. E. Smith   September 26th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Speaking of uneducated people-newsflash, the police were called after the crime took place unless your suggesting Riccio is a police officer.
No one force the juice to plan and do what he did but his own stupidity.

datruth   September 26th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Vigilante justice!!!!!!!

Whole ordeal was so contrived (planned) even those of us not totally familiar with the case can poke holes in the prosecutors case.

Bug H.   September 27th, 2008 2:17 am ET

God gave Moses the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai (not Mt. Cyanide)!

Also, sad the ruined lives that have happened as a result of knowing O.J.!! When you violate God's laws, there are consequences. In his life, I don't think he is just an "innocent" victim. I feel he was guilty 14 years ago, and I believe he is gulty now!!!

Bryan   September 27th, 2008 6:44 am ET

I agree with you Bryan.

Although our nation has more pressing issues right now, I took a few minutes to read CNN's synopsis of OJ's court case in Las Vegas; and I must say....after reading what I read; and seeing live broacast, I have to say...this is the most contrived, staged, pre-orchestrated court case I have ever seen on public display.

Clark County DA should be ashamed of themselves.

Heck, I'm not even privy to ALL the information presented in the case & it still reeks vigilantism.

Is this what our judicial and criminal justice system has reduced itself too?

Linda   September 28th, 2008 9:57 am ET

I am sooo mad at the fact that here in the East Coast we can't see the trial after 3:00. It is only 12:00 noon in the West Coast.
It is just getting good.
I never watch anything after. Could this be about money here?

Erinn Jene   September 29th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

I guess by judging my some of these comments that it is okay for OJ to recruit a bunch of his friends, enter a hotel room and take property by force and at gunpoint. Where is the setup there? If I did that or anyone else, we would be arrested so lets get real here. There is no setup here just OJ's blatant disregard for the law. After all, he got away with murdering his wife and Goldman.

pj   September 29th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

That was the final word when I saw what was said about O.J. Walter is a ill man with a back grond that tells a story about him. How O.J. met this fools tells me he needs firends and GOD. Try Eddie Long

chris ray   September 30th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

So if I carjacked someone at gun point, and later on told them i would give their car back if they dont press chargers dose that mean I never committed a crime. I mean that is what O.J lawyers are basically telling the jury.

Linda Ison   October 1st, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Did anyone check the book Mr. Alexander brought into court? It may have looked like a bible on the outside but, what was really the content of the book. This comes from the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" where a preacher was to testify brought his own bible to the court but it wasn't a bible that way the preacher wouldn't have lied by swearing on his bible. GIVE US A BREAK ALEXANDER>>>YOU ARE A FRAUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
