NEW YORK - We've asked if you know the text of the Declaration of Independence. I mean, all that barbequing on the forth of July is fun, but do we know what we’re celebrating? So here it is when, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, separate and equal station to which the laws of nature, and of what nature's God entitled them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind required that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. Here’s the part that we all know, or should know: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among them are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And that’s just the beginning. But it gets even better if you take the time to read the whole thing which I urge you to do. It’s short. It’s a good read, they have terrific penmanship, and it will remind you better than beer and BBQ the true meaning of Independence Day.
