Guilty verdict reached in Entwistle trial

Posted: 02:55 PM ET

NEW YORK - After just over 11 hours of deliberations, a jury has found Neil Entwistle guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in Woburn, Massachusetts. Entwistle, a 29-year-old native of England, gunned down his wife Rachel, 27, and their 9-month-old daughter, Lillian, in their Hopkinton home back in 2006. Sentencing will begin Thursday morning at 10 am and In Session will bring you live coverage.

prisoners will love this guy .. how dare he sit there smilling.. he will get his bad enough to kill an adult but to kill a child he makes me sick

Michele Del Favero   June 25th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Verdict: guilty as expected. I do wonder if not putting on a defense swayed the jury. Or his behavior? Will be interesting to hear from the jurors.

It would have been great if In Session could have gone over into the following show to cover this live verdict. Long ago, Court TV would break into programing to provide the viewers with verdicts.

The Nanny case comes to mind.

casey golden   June 25th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

I am so pleased with this verdict, it must be so painful for the parents of the victims to listen to the defense try and blame their daughter for the murder of her child and of herself....

Mary   June 25th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

What a colossal disappointment to watch most of this trial, then at the moment of the verdict? You sign off!! It was awful – I don't care what it took, you guys needed to extend broadcast another ten minutes....

Donna Welch   June 25th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

I commend the jury for their decision of GUILTY. It could be not other way. How can the typ physcos be so cruel to loved one?

MargieSenn   June 25th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

I am always truly amazed in trials of such length and emotionally
charged testimony, as in this trial, that people of varied backgroundcan come together and demonstrate our judicial
process at its' best. Such losses for both families

Marilyn   June 25th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

I am glad to see that Neil Entwistle was found guilty of murdering his wife and daughter. It makes me sick to think that he thought he could get away with the idea that Rachel killed her beautiful daughter and herself.

Loretta M. Bremer   June 25th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I just heard the that this COLD blooded man will get to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Why did he not get the death penalty ??That was his wife and infant daughter.

We the American people will have to put a roof over his head and feed this LOW LIFE for the rest of his life.

To think he will live and eat better than thousands of hard working people. Just like a horror movie.

Linda in NC   June 25th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I just hate spending all these hours watching trials on TruTV and never getting to see the verdict on "In Session" if it comes after 3:00 pm. Anyone else feel that way? Makes me think about stopping watching the trials

Sandra-Texas   June 25th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Wow, true to his nature. No emotion showed from the defendent when the verdict was read. How callous can one be? Surely he felt something, relief, horror, expectation? Even his parents were stoic, do you suppose they knew all along he was guilty. Now the appeal process will begin. Too bad Ma. doesn't have the death penalty, it would save the tax payers a lot of money, if he got what his wife and child got, which was no chance at all.

Why didn't he just walk away? Why take lives? These questions never get answered.

Susan Gurley   June 25th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I feel cheated by no defense case presentation and by no conclusive connection of evidence to the defendant. If I had sat on the jury, I would have found it difficult to convict.

Why do these men murder their unborn babies, living babies and their wives? Are these men thinking I will be smarter than the other men? I believe they are more dangerous than a serial killer. One of these days one of them will succeed and will walk away smiling.

Donnisia Simmons   June 25th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

He should not of been charge guilty for the position of a gun and fire arm because there is no solid proof that can put the gun in his hands, and on the other hand did they search the gun for his fingerprints. I think this should of been a mistrail, certainly he is protection someone and the prosecutors and the defense lawyers need to do some more inventions. I think it could of been her that took her life and the life of the baby, and there also is the possiblity that someone might of came in the house and killed them; Neil did stated that he left the back door unlock.

Norene, TN   June 25th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

I'm so happy to see our justice system work so efficiently! The Middlesex tropper Robert Manning did an amazing job during the phone interview. I think his work might possibly have been the most compelling of the entire case. Hearing the lack of emotion in Entwistle's voice during his recall of the events was shocking. If he was really innocent, wouldn't he have made funeral arrangements for his wife and child?! Much less, call emergency officials?! This was the proper verdict and I'm happy one less murderer walks the streets.

jo ann   June 25th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

I only wish that if someone else wants out of a marriage and away from their children, then let them leave and no violence. We really need to have more focus on what happens to you when you commit these terrible acts. Let's see the cruel reality of prison. Maybe teach it in school. I really do not know. I feel for Rachel and Lillian's family. Whatever they do with the husband of Rachel will not heal the hurt in Rachel's families hearts. A very sad situation.

Betty   June 25th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I was pleased to see that the jury took their time going over the evidence. Neil could not have loved his family to have left them to be found as they where. When will people learn that the taking of the lives of innocent people never solves anything, but only makes it harder for the police to truly believe anyone in situtions such as this.

Caryol   June 25th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

Thank God, justice was finally served, and did not wind up as another hung jury or acquittal. I give my deepest condolences to the family that lost their daughter and granddaughter. The Jury did an outstanding job.

Darlene Grimes   June 25th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

This was ABSOLUTELY! the correct and only verdict that this jury could have come with...and the defence Lawyers were excellent...they in my opinion represented that guy to the fullest...and very well...they did their job...and well worth every dollar they made. HOWEVER...their client was G U I L T Y !...FROM THE VERY BEGINNING TO THE END.

And I Thank You Very Kindly

I can't believe that after watching this entire trial I had to go to the computer to see the verdict. Why couldn't coverage stayed for a few minutes longer? What would it have hurt to miss 10-15 minutes of a taped show?
On the other side-Great job jury!!! You heard all the evidence, looked at all the photos & came up with the only verdict that was correct for this person-–GUILTY!

Sam Shevlin   June 25th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I watch In Session every day & love how outspoken Ashley Banfield is. She says many things that the rest of us are thinking. Jack is more reserved & they are an interesting mix. This particular case had me so interested because I was afraid that once again there would be a hung jury allowing someone to get away with murder. In this case two murders of the most horrible kind. I hope it helps the family with some closure although I fully understand that there will always be a large part of their hearts missing. Thanks for your great coverage & insight.

Robin Cobb   June 25th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

After watching the Entwhistle trial for the last two weeks, what a shame that you can't show the verdict live. I think you could have at least keep "In Session" live for a few more minutes until the verdict was read. This is about enough of a disappointment to not want to watch any more of your trial coverages. Since I have been a faithful viewer for many years. Thought you had a great program until today.
Never dreamed you would cut the show off right before a verdict.
I don't recall you doing that in the past. I tried to go to your cnn/crime.com to watch it live but could not view it without it breaking up.

Darlene   June 25th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

I am so glad that the jury found that s.o.b. guilty. What kind of man kills his wife and baby then flees to England to be near his family and go out with his friends like nothing happened. He deserves what he gets from the judge but it wont be good enough for him because I think he should die in the same way he killed his wife and baby. To know that his baby suffered after being shot by him and for Neil to put a pillow over the baby's face so her crying wouldnt be heard by anyone. Then concocked a story that he ran errands and came back and found his wife and baby dead but didnt call the cops he rode around and went to his in-laws house and no one home so he went to the airport and flew to England how stupid is he? Quiet dumb.

Lorraine B. Kirk   June 25th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

He had his day in court; now he gets to live the rest of his life with the gruesome memories, whether he likes it or not, and, he can`t manipulate any more. His wife and daughter earned a crown in heaven, and, in our hearts.

janet cornwell   June 25th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

I am so angry at TRU TV for going off the air just before the verdict was announced in this case!!! Going off the air at 3pm is not "tru coverage". I am sure the anchors would have gladly stayed on the air for another 30 minutes to cover the verdict. Go back to the old "Court TV" format.

G. Bland   June 25th, 2008 3:33 pm ET

Why would you go to regular programming just seconds before a major verdict was read pertaining to a trial you have covered from day one? I am very disappointed that trials are no longer covered from start to finish. You are doing a huge disservice to your viewers.

Bettyanne Gair   June 25th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

I live in British Columbia, Canada, and have been watching the trial of Neil Entwistle faithfully for the last two weeks. As the Verdict was about to be announced, the show went off the air. I got on the computor as fast as I could to see the results. Just as I figured, he is found Guilty. Thank god. To tarnish his wife and childs memory with the garbage of murder/suicide was such a cowardly step. I would like to make a comment on the GSR findings on Rachels hands, could have been her trying to get the gun from Niel after he shot little Lillian. Why nobody brought that up really surprised me. I am glad he got what he deserved. I can't wait for tommorw for the sentenceing. Thank you for letting me vent. Bettyanne G.

Nancy S.   June 25th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

I am not suprised of this verdict. I am glad that justice has been served. Not having a defense was a gamble. Now Rachel and Lillian can rest in peace, and her parents can rest assure their killer will spend the rest of his life behind bars and never have the freedom that he took away from his wife and child. In my opinion, this should be a crime for the death penalty for the loss of a 9 month baby who never had a chance in life. To grow up and to be happy, someday marry and have kids of her own. This will never happen. Why should he live , when his own daughter never see the light of day ever again.

Elizabeth   June 25th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

The defendant is entitled to a fair trial. He is not, however, entitled to have his attorneys spew forth lies about his victims as they proclaim "the victim did it" with absolutely no evidence to support the claim. How is that a "fair" trial?

Stacy F   June 25th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

I'm so thankful that this jury has found Neil guilty, I hope it brings a sence of peace to poor Lillian and Rachel's family. I pray there is some respect, if even a spec, left inside him for his deceased wife and child for him to come forward admitting his guilt and giving the family an explination as to why he would commit such a heinous act. He was found guilty of 1st degree murder for both Lillian and Rachels deaths and now it is his responsibilty as a man to give a reason why. If not for his own peace of mind, atleast for Rachels family!

Linda   June 25th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

I applaud the due diligence of this jury and the fact that they took their time, focused on the evidence, and did not treat augment as evidence. They were intelligent enough to come to a decision based on their careful consideration of the evidence. I commend this jury for not allowing their focus to be shifted by preposterous suggestions from an overwhelmed defense team.

Laura   June 25th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

This was the right verdict. The vision of baby Lillian being murdered by her own father will haunt many of us for days and weeks to come. There may have been disagreements with Rachel, but what did baby Lillian do to deserve this ?

Susan Wilburn   June 25th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

I am thankful to the jury for their dedication in fulfilling their role, as difficult as it has been, to determine guilt or innocence of Neil Entwistle. They have determined that this father and husband did murder his wife, Rachel, and daughter, Lilly.

Justice has been rendered for Rachel and Lilly. Now the healing begins for the family of Rachel and Lilly. This has been a heartbreaking story from the beginning.

Elisabeth Finelli   June 25th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Thank God, the jury got it right. I would wonder how they could been less angry than I found myself during the days of this trial. That he might have gotten any other pronouncement than guilty would have been a crime against any humanity we have in this country Entwistle is the epitome of all that is evil. I've always believed that the soul of one's humanity is in one's eyes. How this man could have cut short the goodness, intelligence, happiness and love of that good mother and beaufiful child is beyond comprehension I can only hope that the rest of his days show him the horror that he created.

Linda Singleton   June 25th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Hurray for the Justice System! There is no way a man would come upon his family and see them murdered in their bed, and walk away without notifying the police of what had happened. I guess he figured by being a citizen of another country, the police in this country wouldn;t be smart enough to figure this out. His story was continuously an insult to intelligence to think that he could pull the wool over the eyes of law eforcement, family of Rachel, or the public for that matter. He didn't plan his escape or lie very efficiently and got caught in his own web of deceit and lies. I just don't know how you can look into a baby's eyes and shoot her, whether she was his child or someone elses. He is cold blooded, selfish and thinks that he can wish responsibility away and start over. He is a psychopath like Scott Peterson. Did he learn anything from Scott's trial? Did he learn anything from the trial of the cop who killed his girlfriend, but left his son alone in the house? Did he believe that he was going to get away with this? May God have mercy on his soul because there is no mercy for a cowardly, gutless killer.

Lee Fairfax   June 25th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

As in Scot Peterson, the Entwhistle apple doesn't fall far from it's tree...did you hear the nasty statements abour the victim given by mater and pater entwhistle?

Emad   June 25th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

It's good to see that justice was applied and served. Just goes to show everyone that you can't get away with murder.

Patty   June 25th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

If Entwistle's parents believe that he did not receive a fair trial, then they should place that blame on his attorneys! With the evidence that jury had to consider, they could not have reached any other verdict! You would think that having two years to prepare for this case, his attorney's could have done more with his denfense, or maybe Neil should now tell the truth and let his parents have some peace!

Joyce   June 25th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

This is one of many trails I have followed from the start and once again when the verdict was reached it was at the end of program so you said to go on line to listen for the verdict. Why can't you just delay the next program that is a taped program and could be held over for the next day? By the time I get my computer up and running it was all over. This is not the first time something like this has happened. You ask for viewers for comments, well I think this is the last time I will get involved in another trail. It seems to me that this station does not really care that their viewers get the whole story including the verdict.

Mary Martin   June 25th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

I am so grateful the jury didn't fall for that ridiculous defense blaming Rachel for murdering her baby and then commiting suicide. I was horrified that that scenario was even broached. I can't imagine how sick Rachel's parents must have felt; bad enough to have your daughter and granddaughter die at the hands of your son in law, but to have the audacity to try to blame the deaths on her! This was no defense but rather an attack on this beautiful young mother. If Lillian was a bit older, I suppose they would have tried to blame her.

Sharon   June 25th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

I just don't know what other verdict the jury could have reached in this case. His guilt was just so clear. He was a liar and came off as narcisistic. Any warm-blooded, innocent person would have 1) not had conflicting stories, 2) called the police 3) attended the funerals and 4) taken the stand in their own defense. When I think of the defense attorney standing outside the courthouse before the trial saying that he would "successfully defend his client, where it counts, in the courtroom", I'm just amazed at the arrogance. I understand the defense attorney's job but, for God's sake, if his client fed him this crap defense, he should have made him come to his senses. It was just too arrogant and unbelievable.

Donna L.   June 25th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

I Wasn't A Bit Surprised A Verdict Came So Soon. I Am So Happy Rachel And Lillian's Murderer Will Finally See Justice. I Think Everyone Knew By The Overwhelming Evidence Against Neil That Suicide Was Not Possible. Lock Him Up And Throw Away The Key. Just Wish Death Was An Option.

Lucy   June 25th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

I have tivo'ed every moment of this trial and am an avid watcher since the days of Henry Schleiff and i am am furious that you had to cut short live commentary minutes before the verdict was read!!
I cannot seem to access the story from my computer and I feel totally let down. Shame on Trutv for treating the viewers like this. A long-anticipated verdict PRE-EMPTS REGULAR PROGRAMMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regina Kay   June 25th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

It's nice to know not all jurors can be hoodwinked. We've had some recent cases that were ludicrous, e.g. Spector. Elliott Winestein and Stephanie Page should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves for maligning Rachel in this way.

kathy   June 25th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

i think that neil entwistle and scott peterson should share a cell they are so much alike that it is scary!!!!

Yvonne   June 25th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

This case is so horrendous and justice was served.

JoAnn Cousins   June 25th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

Rachel and Lillian can now rest in peace. Justice was handed down for them today.

Yvonne   June 25th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Of course he is guily!!!

Donna M   June 25th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

NOT A TEAR! Even when the verdict was read as Guilty, he showed no emotions had he be innoncent as he said he was I believe that he would have showed anger or something (!) the whole time while the verdict was being read by the head juor.

M.V.Smith   June 25th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

Re Neil' s mother and her post verdict statement-
It would seem that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

It is rather reminiscent of Scott Peterson's mother who always claimed HER son could do no wrong.

Nic   June 25th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

I followed this case and tried to see both sides BUT when seeing the angle of the gunshot wound to the baby and the mother, it would seem impossible that it was suicide, especially with the wound the mother received when the baby was shot – she had to have some pretty strong upper body strength for it to happen as the defense claims. For the husband to 'save the honor' of his wife is malarky – he was running for his life and going to Britian was a way to not face what he'd done. And he was a person who supposedly knew the computer, well I guess not because the memory holds all activity to the computer, deleting the history is just cosmetic to free up some space of cached graphics – the memory held the key. It's so sad that two lives were ended in this manner – I don't think anyone could have seen it coming to prevent it.

CYNTHIA ROLFE   June 25th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

JUSTICE HAS CERTAINLY BEEN MORE THAN SERVED. THIS MAN IS A CRIMINAL IN THE TRUEST SENSE OF THE WORD

Karen   June 25th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

How many lives are affected with one persons selfish actions. Neil has thrown away his life, how will he get through days, months years in prison? He has also killed a part of his parents and his in laws.these family will hurt in different ways for the rest of their lives!

reva fuhrman   June 25th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

Not to minimize this appauling crime but let's equate it to a baseball game for a second. If you didn't hit the ball, there is no reason to RUN.
I can only hope that he dreams about his wife and innocent daughter over and over again for the rest of his life. Perhaps at some point he will grasp what kind of animal he is. I think his family knew he was a very DARK and DEVIOUS person for a very long time. Denial is an extremely powerful thing. As the coverage of this case closes, I hope court tv shows several pics of mom and baby as a tribute to their lives.
Thank you for your time
Reva Fuhrman

Melanie Goughary   June 25th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Awesome!! I've been following every day and just couldn't imagine a jury NOT finding him guilty. Kudo's to the Matarrazzo family for their dignity in showing great reserve. They will continue to be in my prayers.

Melanie

teresa vanwert   June 25th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

I watched the whole trial and the closing statement for the defense is what I think truly did Neil in. Dont get me wrong the evidence was strong against him. But they where grasping for anything towards the end since they had no evidence that it could be anyone else why not blame the person that is dead for doing it.

Mary, Mary   June 25th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

After the horrible disappointment with the jury in the Phil Spector trial, my faith was restored in our judicial system with today's announcement. Neil Entwistle has a long haul ahead of him in the slammer – it is my understanding that his fellow prisoner's won't hold back on a child killer (they've all got em – kids that is) and with his good looks, well, he won't need adultfriendfinder.com – he'll have all the friends he would ever want.

MB   June 25th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

To say that I am horrified by the statements made by the parents of Neil Entwistle, especially his mother, is an understatement. While I understand that parents should love and support their children unconditionally, they should never support their evil deeds. I sincerely hope that they see and hear the backlash not only from US citizens, but also those in the UK and go back home immediately and forever! Of course, if they must stay they could move in with Scott Peterson's parents.

Carmen Szsymanski   June 25th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

ALL I CAN SAY iS ,THAT JUSTICE IS DONE.

siobahn   June 25th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

IF AMERICAN JUSTICE DOESN'T GET YOU FIRST--A HIGHER JUSTICE CAN & WILL. AMERICAN JUSTICE AT IT'S BEST HERE!!!

Rhonda   June 25th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I did feel for the Entwistle's loss of there grandaughter, until she spoke about Rachel's alleged depression!!!! If, she thought this was really a concern why didn't she YELL it from the mountain tops?????? I feel badly for Rachel and Baby-Lili, her entire family, so why must his mother feel the need to muddy-up Rachel? A mother knows their child even when they don't want to think their child is GUILTY! This is not her doing, I give her that. From my understanding, he has received a far more extensive and just trial than he might have gotten elsewhere!!!

Holly   June 25th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Thank you to the jurors for validating that Neil Entwistle is a low life baby and wife killer.

How pathetic that Neil's parents attack the memories of Rachel and Lillian by accusing Rachel of murdering her beloved Lillian. It is now clear to me where Neil learned how to lie and not face the truth. Neil's parents need to be taught that denial is not a river. May Rachel and Lillian rest in peace and maybe someday they can shed the horrible Entwisle name.

Nora LaFlure, NY   June 26th, 2008 7:37 am ET

THe jury did their job!
they wanted to make sure nothing was over looked, so when the defence files the appeal (which) they already had made out, will be thrown out. Nora, N.Y

Kimberly Ward   June 26th, 2008 8:18 am ET

When the verdict was read, I was again disgusted by the reaction from Mr. Entwistle. He looked inconvenienced that he is going to have to spend the rest of his life in prison. Once again, guilt was written all over his face. As with most verdict in cases like this, the jury must feel even more assured that they made the right decision, when they see the reaction from the defendant.

George   June 26th, 2008 8:23 am ET

A just verdict for a double murderer.
The only reason for an appeal would be the incompetent "Defence Team", who tried a very poor "mini Phil Spector" strategy. On the other hand there cannot be a just punishment for what Entwistle did.
May the victims rest in peace and God help the victim´s family.

Leslyn   June 26th, 2008 8:50 am ET

Thank goodness this jury showed some common sense and didn't give any credence to the defense's implausible scenario! I hope Rachel and Lily can finally rest in peace knowing that their murderer will be behind bars for the rest of his miserable life!

Lee   June 26th, 2008 9:17 am ET

Thank goodness he got exactly what he deserved. Now, if only the judge sends him away for the rest of his life.

Jean Plummer   June 26th, 2008 9:21 am ET

Justice is served!!! Oh what a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive!!!!!!

Diane   June 26th, 2008 9:27 am ET

It is an outrage that the defense tried to make anyone believe that mother killed her child and then herself! And the nerve to suggest that a shot in the breast is painless! Go get a mamo and find out just how tender the breast is. So she shot her child, a bullet went into her breast and she had no reaction, didn't do anything except shoot herself in the head and then lay down and held her child as they died. Right.

ELAINE NICKOLI   June 26th, 2008 9:27 am ET

The evidence, and the Jury's Verdict, confirm that Neil Entwistle is a murdering COWARD. The only suicide, in this case, is Neil's and he was too COWARDLY to carry it out. Cowards also "RUN"!

susan fenters   June 26th, 2008 9:41 am ET

Thank God there is justice, He has tried to put it on his wife and the jury seen through him. I think he is crazy the way he smiled through it all.

Cheri   June 26th, 2008 9:43 am ET

I know that lie detectors are not admissible in court, however, it would be interesting to know if he took one and what the results were.

Valeta Barger   June 26th, 2008 9:45 am ET

I believe this verdict was the only one that could have reasonably been reached. There are too many things that don't add up. The defense stated that Neil purchased two latte's from Starbucks, one for him, one for Rachel, yet they also state he checked his email upon arriving home. What sane person buys a latte to share with someone then waits almost an hour to give it to them. There is one point where Neil, in the taped conversations, states "when I finished" talking about how he covered up his wife and baby before he left to go to the kitchen. As for the family of Neil Entwistle I say go back to England, have your son tried in your court system and then bear judgement on the American system that provided their son trial by a jury of HIS peers. In the British court system it is not the prosecution's responsibility to prove the persons guilt it is the defense's responsibility to prove their client is innocent. In other words they are guilty until proven innocent. Take the sleazebag back to England and let him murder a British citizen then see how fair a trial the jerk would recieve there. His parent should be ashamed of their accusations and get their head out of their backsides and accept their son is a killer. After listening to the rant of his mother it's easy to see the apple didn't fall far from the proverbial tree.

maggie hobbs   June 26th, 2008 9:48 am ET

Praise God! There is occasionally justice in the world. I'm sorry for this guy's family...it's terrible for them. I kept hearing the people on TruTV talk about him crying during the showing of the crime scene. It sure looked like a behind -his -hand smile to me. Even now, watching him, he has the same little secretive smile on his face at times. I hope at some point he faces what he has done and asks God to forgive him.

zoe dahl   June 26th, 2008 9:51 am ET

I feel so sorry for the family of Rachael and the Entwistles. Watching this trial from beginning to end, makes me wonder about society in general, that we really can't know the other, as we go about our lives.
To think Rachel and Lily were lying there sleeping peacefully, never to wake up and Neil walks away without ever looking back. Whew!

It is absolutely frightening to think that you marry a man, have his child, and yet know nothing about the true character of him. Poor Rachel made a deadly decision to get involved with this crazy monster. Her loving family will have to live with this knowledge for the rest of their lives. I hope coward, sexual deviant, crazy Entwistle is placed in general population.

I think the justice system has once again worked.

I know the defence attorney is always trying to clear the name of his defendent, but REALLY.

How that attorney can sleep at night is beyond me. I think he was a hindurance to the case. I Truly believe Neil is GUILTY, but I really think the way the attorney badgered witnesses and tried to say Rachel killed herself and her baby was just WRONG!!!! He lost the case himself, just by his stupid actions.

Neils' mother should be ashamed of herself for saying the stupid things she has said. I think he should be shot.

This was the only verdict. Rachaels brother spoke of his family, brothers and sisters there are no "steps".How sad that such a loving family, has suffered so much. Not many families blend so completely. That makes the crime so much more painful to so many, there are no winners.

If Neil Entwistle should happen to marry while in prison, could his spouse profit from his story?

Christy   June 26th, 2008 10:44 am ET

I watched Neil Entwistle's face during the impact statements and the sentencing. If he did not murder his wife and baby I would have expected a different reeaction from him. He almost looked bored and annoyed by having to sit through all these emotional statements that spoke about the death of his wife and baby.

Neil Entwistle's defense was only to set him up for an appeal. I'm sure his attorneys told him he had no chance of winning this trial; however, Stephanie Page effectively set the stage for the possibility of a future win on appeal with basic forensic evidence at issue with the Medical Examiner. Dr. Zane cracked under pressure and was a poor witness for the State and I think with possibility of expert witness testimony, if they can get them, this verdict could possibily be overturned on a techicality.

Ashleigh Banfield I have never found you to be fair in any case I have watched.
