Former governor's wife testifies at divorce trial

Posted: 09:42 AM ET

ELIZABETH, New Jersey–The court has already heard from former New Jersey governor James McGreevey. Now it’s his estranged wife’s turn. On Wednesday, Dina Matos McGreevey took the stand to begin her testimony in the McGreeveys’ divorce trial – the final chapter in a story that started out like a fairy tale, but turned sordid after Mr. McGreevey resigned following the disclosure that he was gay.

Earlier in the day, defense forensic accountant Kalman Barson underwent a blistering cross-examination by McGreevey's attorney Steven Haller. Haller was so contemptuous of Barson’s testimony that – following Barson’s departure – he asked the judge to completely strike it from the record. Judge Karen Cassidy declined to do so at the present time . . . but took the matter under advisement.

The bulk of Ms. Matos McGreevey’s testimony is yet to come today. Stay tuned.

I think Matos is taking this battle to far. With the behavior and demeanor she is showing in court shows she was putting on an act as a First Lady.

WHY IS HER LAWYER JUST SITTING THERE ALLOWING HIS CLIENT TO BE BADGERED BY MCGREEVEY'S LAWYER. HIS ATTORNEY IS ASKING QUESTIONS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ISSUES AT HAND AND HER ATTORNEY IS ALLOWING IT TO GO ON

My opinion is Mr. McGreevey got himself a very rich boyfriend and put it on tv , walking all around a lavish estate w/lover was another slap in the face to his wife and child. Why should he want to work when he can have that lifestyle and does he not care about his daughter's lifestyle if it means his wife would'nt have to cut her living situation. He could her $600,000.00 and never even feel it! Guess his boyfriend will just pay all the legal fees for him. I was appauled the way his attorney disrespected Dina today. Made him look like a ---- was glad the judge called him on it. Love your show and will be watching.......

Between the two of them, Dina Matos at least made a seemingly honest attempt to answer questions. The former governor looked evasive and purposely uncooperative. Another troubling aspect is that he calls his present companion his "life partner". Seems he's already had two that were supposed to be life partners, had two children he doesn't support financially and now wants to be taken care of himself instead of living up to his obligations.

I simply can't imagine Jim McGreevey taking his or his daughter's laundry anywhere or even handling it in any way. I simply don't buy his protestations that he doesn't care about money.
