SEATTLE, Washington – At the trial of Naveed Haq, the accused Jewish Center shooter, we got a glimpse of Dayna Klein’s “heroic” ability to composure herself under pressure. She repeatedly fought back emotion during a clear and compelling account of the events of that terrifying day.

Klein, who was pregnant at the time, recalled how she was shot in the arm and leg, and then dragged herself across her office floor to call 911. She stayed on the phone even though she knew the gunman had threatened to kill anyone who did so.

Klein also described the horrifying moments as she left the building. Police officers told her “Don’t look,” but she did anyhow, and saw her friend Pamela Waechter lying face-up on the steps, shot in the head.

“I asked the officers if I could please stay with Pam so that she wouldn’t have to be by herself until she was identified,” said Klein, sobbing on the stand. They did not allow her to.

What a horrifying event, particularly for someone carrying a child. Her grace under fire is amazing, and apparently God has special plans for her and her baby.
I’m not Jewish and I’m not a gunman, but I CAN, by hearing/reading testimony, get an idea of the chaotic horrors this woman witnessed. I’d do well to testify at all, and even if I did I’d have to be so Xanaxed up I’d make little sense.
This isn’t the biggest story in the news (her testimony, I mean) but it sure made me stop and think, “wow, what an amazing lady.” It will be the story I keep with me, even after reading every national headline. This is about the good in people; this is inspiring. News doesn’t have to be all about a body count. The courage of one woman is what the world needs to see right now, and thanks for showing it here.

I know family members of the victims in this shooting. The end result of this man’s actions are the same whether he is deemed insane or not. There is not sufficient punishment for what he did..

I think we’re too quick to punish people for every act of wrongdoing. There’s very little understanding or forgiveness in the human heart. Yes, what Haq did was horrible. The taking of a life is horrible. But this man suffers from the horror of mental illness and needs serious professional help. Jail will NOT rehabiltitate him. So he has no hope of ever having a normal life. Sad, very sad
