NEW YORK – Remember the old song “Double Vision?” It’s one of my favorites. It was Foreigner.

And then there’s “Double Indemnity,” one of my all time favorite movies. 1944. There’s a murder, an insurance scam, all the twists and turns of a classic Hollywood thriller.

But even at his best, Fred McMurray can’t match Darren Mack, the star of this week’s show in a Reno, Nevada courtroom.

Think about it: You’ve got a beautiful couple. Swingers too. A brutal stabbing death. A sniper’s bullet aimed at a judge. The bloody dog. The little girl. Starbucks and then the flight to Mexico.

It just doesn’t get any better than that. But then you add the double defenses and it’s a fact pattern so bizarre no Hollywood studio would buy it. Too unbelievable, right? And that was precisely the problem for Darren Mack at trial. The jury likely wouldn’t have believed it either.

Darren Mack’s story spelled double trouble for his defense. And that’s why the deal he took was the best possible result for a defense that was a mission impossible.

That’s the Last Word for today.

Those of us on the east coast did not see the sentencing! We sat through 6 hours of very sad victim impact statements and the Judge ajourn to consider his ruling. Please show the entire ruling. Those of us who have invested so much time watching this trial should get to see the ruling in its entirety, not just sound bites.

Mack The Knife has had my attention from day one. I am surprised it did not get more TV and media coverage. I found many similarities to the OJ TRIAL when we were told that this tiny young woman almost had her head cut off and there was a barking dog involved. Did Mr. Mack think he might cop an OJ deal and be set free?
Who knows how the criminal mind works especially if they claim temporary insanity?
Now the lawyers are setting up for an appeal base on the fact that Mr. Mack was
AFRAID of this woman?
Good Grief and give us a break!

Jami was incorrect to say that Charles Manson did not get the death penalty…he did get the death penalty but then the death penalty was overturned and C. Manson was sentenced differently…
